Sony HS50 and XBOX 360 via component

Hi, I have connected my XBOX 360 to my Sony HS50 via the component leads supplied. When I select 720p mode on the XBOX the image on the screen is smaller than full size (there is a 2" black border around the image). When I select 1080i mode the image fills the screen and looks good. Why does 720p mode not work correctly? Should I be doing anything else? I believe 720p mode should look better than 1080i because it is the native res. of the PJ - True? Thanks for any advice.

Hi

I have this issue on my HS50 also. It's because we've both got the older firmware. Strangely if you use the VGA lead for the XBox 360 it gives you a full screen picture in 720p, so it only affects the compnent / HDMI sockets. Sony will do a firmware update for you to make it full screen with no border, but you have to send it away to them. If you're still under warranty they don't charge you for it. I'm just waiting until the Spring to send it off, when I won't use it as much

Hope this helps

Hi Graham, thanks for the reply. I had heard about this problem but thought it was limited to the HDMI input only. Guess I will have to get it upgraded or buy an XBOX VGA cable. It does look good on 1080i, it is hard to believe it would be better on 720p. Cheers, Jason.
