Xbox 360 and Sim2 HT300

Finally received my component cables today and was looking forward to seeing my first hi-def game experience.
So after I switched all the cable switches to HD and component and fired up the Sim2 I was impressed, but not blown away.

I then went into the Xbox menu and saw that you can select 480p, 720p and 1080i. I tried 720p and the picture broke up and the projector clearly wasn't happy so had to return to 480p.

Now the native resolution of the chip in my HT300 is supposed to be 1276 x 720 so why does the progressive component input flash up a mere "720 x 576" and why does it not display a 720p image?

Oh and where did the Sim2-specific forum go?

Yeah, first thing I did: "So after I switched all the cable switches to HD and component..."

The Joytech cable has two switches, one for HD and the other to select component or s-video which is nice for watching on the 36" CRT.

But I'm annoyed a supposedly HD capable projector can't handle a 720p signal.

Have not got a 360 but have you tried the 'auto' button on the pj remote? Maybe this may cure the problem, or try to go to another input on the Sim, eg s video, then switch back to component with the 360 in 720p mode.

You could always try to contact Sim themselves. I think both Alan and Jeff from Sim post here now as the Sim forum is not around now.

Good call Mahmood!

I had a long email conversation with Alan Roser who basically said he thought the 360 was at fault.

But I tried the "auto" button and suddenly the picture sprung into glorious 720p! It still doesn't like 1080i which doesn't bother me, 720p looks great.

Only problem is the HT300 still jumps back to 576 mode after a random amount of time, requiring another press or two of the auto button, which can get annoying in the middle of a frenzied PGR3 race!

Will quiz Alan further on this latest development...
