7500k Colour Temperature

Hi all ,

I've just opted to use the 7500K colour temperature on my Infocus SP 7205 & I must say it seems to have improved things greatly on both component & HDMI. It seems to be giving me better colours, & contrast seems to be better.

I don't really understand about colour temp. except that it changes colour intensity? Anyway, I'm much much happier with it now.

Additionally, it was interesting switching off Faroudja's true-life on the component input. This seemed to really increase the pictures sharpness, but perhaps made it look less filmic. Nice to have the option though.

With the new 6609-E firmware on my 3910 & switching the colour temp I am much happier with my picture - was thinking of selling the 3910, but I think I'll keep it now

T.

7500k is considered cool. 6500k is what film and video should be.

I often prefer a cooler picture depending on the film.

I'm always amazed how cool pictures look at the cinema.

The Colour was hugely out of wack on my 7205. On DVI too much green, which I believe is quite common; component too purple with a washed out look, despite calibrating contrast etc., which has been harder to fix, but lowering the blue offset as well as the gain has helped. No doubt if I had it ISF calibrated then I'm sure it would look this good, or better, on 6500K, but since I've had to do it by eye, apart from the contrast & brightness, it's been quite a task. I'm pretty pleased with it now.

D65 is the colour temp that movies are mastered to, so having the pj at that colour temp (or at least close to it) will mean you're seeing the colours as intended. Of course some people like a cooler or warmer image so accuracy isn't always top of their aggenda.

Higher colour temps can allow a higher contrast fromt he pj since the UHP lamps are generally more blue/green and this can also give more brightness. I think Infocus tend to let their greens run more yellow to allow a higher lumen output as well as give better numbers at 7500k which I believe their lumens and CR figures are based on.

Timbo, that firmware for the 3910, is that multi region?

without meaning to be a pain, but i'm not going to get the chance to get my 3910 to the shop to get them to multi region it, so im gonna take the risk myself..lol......could you pm me the instructions for doing it, and if possible send me the file so i can burn it (incl instructions for burning it..lol)

i havnt done this before so im a little nervous about it, but there are a few discs i wouldnt mind getting from other regions now.......

(who wouldnt be nervous with a £700+ machine...lol)

i know there is a thread for it, but i wanna make sure im doing it properly and not reading an old post with wrong instructions..lol

cheers geezer
