homemade projector mount question

I am a big fan of custom building pieces for my home theater such as mounts, tables, and what not. My question is if vertical lens shift will keep me from having to build a projector mount that has adjustment points.

Basically, i want to build a fixed mount that allows no pitch or yaw for the projector, mount it on the wall at the proper heighth, and use the lens shift to make the minute adjustments to project it within my screen's limits. Am I right in thinking this or should I build my mount so that it came aim the projector within the bounds of the screen?

Not having to do anything but screw the projector to the mount would be a much simpler design than having to build pivot points.

That is absolutely wonderful. I thought it would work but needed the expert opinon from the members of this board to be sure. Now i can worry about making a very stylish maple mount instead of worryinga bout how to hide the pivot points and locks.

Thanks for your help!

Try to leave a few mm adjustment eg by drilling holes oversized etc. You'll do well to get it absolutely spot on 1st time...PJ

another question:

How fine is the adjustment using lens shift. I will be projecting from about 15 feet away onto a 110" screen. If I am off by say, a 1/2 inch to the left, will the lens shift be that good, or will every time i use it it will jump 4 inches?

I have never had lens shift before. Is it a mechanical lever by the lens?

Over drilling the holes would definitely help to allow for error.

The lens shift on the TX is fairly sensitive, you can easily move it to within quarter of an inch say - I'd presume the other models were similar.

It is mechanical but the implementations are different I think, the TX is an independent vertical and horiz wheel, some are joysticks...PJ
