Sony HS60 UK Release Date??

Has anyone got any idea when the HS60 will be in stock in the UK?

As the next projector in my demo queue I'm eagerly awaiting some info on this projector but so far news on it has been rather scarce.

Some early reports on the HS60 are sounding very positive the only negatives seems to be SDE and the behaviour of the DI.

CKL of AVBUZZ even rates the HS60's picture quality higher than the Mitsubishi HC3000. I claim I very much doubt, however time will tell.

Zag,

It was looking like early 2006 however I have been told that it may be the first or second week in December.

zag - with all the PJs you buy....and then return, and the charge you pay for restocking, wouldn't it work out cheaper just to go and buy the Sony Ruby

Cheers for those words of wisdom DEANO-B. I just have a fetish for buying new PJs and firing 'em up for the 1st time. Nothing quite like it.

To me spending £1500 on a projector is a large chunk of money and I'd rather lose a bit of money rather then living with something that either I can't watch or don't find impressive enough for the money. I'd rather spend a tad more or wait until something does hit the spot at that price point.

After I buy and post the thread ' Sony HS60 Big Disappointment sent it packing ' , perhaps I'll try the Ruby after I've reinforced my ceiling with a steel I-beam. But to be honest losing a couple of hundred quid pales into insignificance the amount of money you'd lose in a couple of years of ownership with a Sony Ruby. The Ruby for what it offers is 'cheap' at the price but in 2 years time that level of performance will be available around the £1500 mark.

Chasing the bleeding edge is always money down the pan but I suppose if you can afford to lose the dollars then why not...

I hope that you After a few days of ownership you change your comment to :-

Sony HS60 Big Wow factor and i am keeping this one.

If that turns out to be your observations on this projector then it has the potential to be a winner for DLP and LCD fans.

Out of interest patt who is your supplier?? Anyone in my area i.e Southampton.

End of next week for the HS60 would suit me just fine. Just in time for the delivery of my XBOX360 (fingers crossed). Don't want to be playing in low def for too long.

That puts it at Wednesday next week then. How much are A N audio selling them for because so far I have seen big variations in the prices. Anything from £1660 to £2100 which seems rather odd.

DiscountTV appear to have the best price at the moment but you can only ' pickup in store due to contractual restrictions on mail order sales '

What good is that if you live hundreds of miles away from the store??

Sony once again trying to protect it's Sony shops I expect.

Are you on about A N Audio in St Neots? thats where I live.

Did he have one in to demo ? what else is he selling in there? any AE900's per chance?
is that 1750 + or inc VAT ?

Would love to see one as I'm a bit worried about the brightness of the PJ, thinking a AE900 would be better but the HS60 has better lens shift, picture need to be much better to warrant the extra cash tho.

I've had a few words with CKL over at AVSforums to get his opinion on the HS60 in comparison with the HC3000. For your info please find a copy of our posts below.

------------

Enjoyed reading your PJ reviews so far and looking forward to your full review of the HC3000.

In the last few weeks I've owned and returned both a Z4 and HC3000. With the Z4 I was unsatisfied with the black level and with the HC3000 the rainbows for my eyes were horrendous.

The HC3000 had a fantastic picture and if the Sony HS60 can do blacks as good as this PJ I'm very likely to bag one.

Please provide a detailed comparison of the HC3000 with the other LCD models. I'm very interested in how possibly the 'best' LCD PJ, HS60 stacks up against the HC3000.

Zags

---------------

My viewing distance is also 1.8X. I can see the screen doors from HS60. Well it is difficult to say if you can tolerate it or not without watching it. I finally buy HC3000 instead of HS60 because of the SDE issue. HS60 is a excellent projector at its price range. I hope it can solve the blinking effect at the production unit. HS60 has better color rendering, lower black level and video noise than HC3000. But HC3000 possesses higher ANSI contrast. It can provide more 3D picture and better real contrast than HS60. This advantage is more obvious at not completed dark room.

HC3000 is better than those D5 720P LCD projectors. Considering overall picture quality, I will rank HS60 slightly higher than HC3000. However HC3000's price is USD400 cheaper than HS60 here.

CKL

Very interesting, sounds like the Sony could be a very promising projector.

I have spoken to a retailer today and last week and neither of them had any idea when the HS60 was to be expected. Both gave estimates around Mid Decemeber, so well done Cosa if you are picking one up this week.

Interestingly enough both retailers I have spoken too gave me the impression that the HS60 from their viewpoint was best avoided. Too much trouble from their perspective, after the problems and poor customer service (from Sony), encountered with the HS50.

One of the retailers went so far as saying they weren't even going to bother to stock the HS60, as the HS50 just caused them too much grief!!

The retailer I spoke with today advised me to steer clear of the HS60 until and I quote ' a few of the early adopters finish off Sony's product testing for them '

I really hope Sony has got the HS60 sorted. I think I may just take that bit of good advice and wait for some more feedback/reviews on this PJ before taking the plunge. (1st time for everything )

Thats surprising Zag i get access to sonys dealer line and get information on there graded products (either refurbs or dealer returns) and to date there have been no hs50s on this list.
The reason i look is a nice cheap qualia 004 would have been nice

No issues with my HS50 since January.
Honestly, apart from the HDMI blanking issue with 720p (which is apparently fixed on the HS60 anyway) I havn't heared of any problems with HS50's on here.

I'd actually go as far as to say that it seams the most reliable LCD projector out there. No lamp issues, no dust blobs (no cleaning required), not even dead pixels seam to be an issue.

Maybe your retailer is just mouthing off in protest to Sony's pricing and mail order policies. Significant issues though these are, I wouldn't give any retailer my custom if they tried to manipulate me this way.

Well that's not exactly reasurring is it. Just kidding. I think both retailers were trying to convey that when something did go wrong (perhaps rarely it seems) Sony unlike some other manufactures had a very poor turn around time on getting the problem resolved. Some people had their HS50 missing in action for weeks for the HDMI blanking issue. One retailer had a customer so hacked off after his HS50 had been missing for 2 months, that they gave him a new one in the end.

How much truth is in that I don't know. Just relaying some comments from an unhappy retailer who may also had an axe to grind about Sony's pricing and mail order policies.
