Hi All

I have recently purchased a cheap HP projector as my 1st projector, I only use it for films until I move house and then looking to get a better one, the problem that I am having at the moment is that now I have put up the screen, I have resized the image to fit on the screen and all looks good in the dark anyway!

BUT what I notice is that there is light being projected below the main picture and some at the sides like the keystone is out but its not for the picture being projected.

Could not find an answer to waht causes this, I have projector and DVD player set to 16:9 and screen is a 16:9 so dont understand why I have this extra light

Any help much appreciated as apart from this I am really happy with it all!

I have a Z3 and get the same at the left and right side. This is normal if the projector is projecting angled up or down (as is usually the case).

Most screens designed for home cinema have black borders which soak up this leaky light (so you don't see it anymore).

I bought a busybase manual pull down screen which works a treat (widescreen white area with 5cm black borders to the left, right and bottom and 40cm black border to the top).

I also have these 5cm black lines around screen but they by no menas soak up the light as the light particually below the picture is say 12" or so.

Do you think I have my projector tilted too much, as it may be possible to tilt slightly less and use the projectors move screen option. As when fixing the tilt on the projector I set the projector move screen setting to 0 and then fixed projector on wall so that projected image was pretty much were I wanted it. Would it make any diffrence does anybody know if i was to say set move screen to say maximum in one direction (ie up or down) and then remount projector inorder to obtain the least tilt on projector or will the move screen facility still cause this light problem?

Don't know. I hadn't realised the light at the bottom was 12" big.

Can't you try adjusting the angle/adjustment with the PJ in its present position to see if the 12" light bar at bottom changes size ?

I appreciate this will result in the image being beamed incorrectly onto the screen but may allow you to find a better setting before moving the PJ

What is the resolution of the projector? If it's a 4:3 panel even at 16:9 mode the unused pixels at the top and bottom of the panel still let light through giving very wide "black" bars at the top and bottom of the image. I hope I have understood your post correctly

Just about to say the same thing. It's probably a 4:3 projector with resultant light spill...PJ

I am not that up on my projectors and as I said this is only a cheap projector. I think it is an office projector more than home cinema.

But what you have said I think is right, as when I set the projector to
4:3 then the image projected matches perfectly the size of the excess light, if that makes sense!

So is there ant thing I can do about it, does anyone know as it lights up an otherwise dark room and is really quite anoying.

only real thing you can do is buy a 4:3 shape screen and watch everyone in 4:3....

or try an idea i doubt will work, get two pieces of card, get the projector playing something in 16:9, then place the pieces of card in front of the lens till they eradicate the light spill :-)
(altho its quite likely going to interfere with the rest of the picture, but ya never know...)
