HDCP HDMI and non-HDCP DVI - compatible?

Does anyone know if the HDCP enabled HDMI connnection on my Panasonic PT-AE700 will display a picture from a DVI enabled DVD source that is not HDCP enabled.

If not, would that be on all source material i.e. home recorded DVDs and AVI files etc. or just orignal studio made DVD discs?

Any help/info greatly appreciated.

HDCP works by having the source (e.g. the DVD player) encrypt the picture, then requiring an HDCP enabled display to decrypt it again. However, if an HDCP display receives an unencrypted source it will still display it, so your HDMI-equipped projector will display material whether it is encrypted or unencrypted .

In your case the DVD player is not HDCP capable so it will not encrypt the picture anyway.

You just need a DVI-to-HDMI cable and away you go!

Kurtz has explained the mechanics of HDCP so your in the clear on that one - do keep in mind the HDMI Input is a Video Input so if your using a PC as your DVD player you need to ensure the PC is set to Output a 'Video' signal that's compatible with the HDMI Input on your Projector, most Graphics cards only Output PC signal formats and refresh rates you may need an extra bit of software to control your Graphics card.

Best regards

Joe
