Projectors with built-in CF card and USB slots - what are the slideshow limitations?

How do the projectors with CF card and USB flash-drive slots handle presentations? Do they have to be in Powerpoint format, or will the PJ display a sequence of native resolution JPEGs (just like a DVD player with JPEGs on a CD)?
Our photo club wants to display a sequence of "slides" under control of the remote, but want these to be the full XGA resolution of the PJ, so not 'wrapped' in Powerpoint. Is this normally possible?

This should be no problem at all with a CF card or USB memory capable projector. The Plus and NEC range are particularly good at this. You should bear in mind that you will have limited or no animation capabilities if you're thinking of transitions etc.

I'm interested in whether this is actually a better way to display image sequences than with a standard laptop (apart from the convenience factor). Presumably the USB or CF interface will be 'digital-to-digital', whereas a standard laptop will have a D-A in the graphics adaptor and there will be an A-D conversion in the pj, so the quality of these two components and conversions will be important. Our laptops don't have a DVI interface, and nor do all projectors. For best quality, I guess we should choose a pj with DVI interface, and, for PC-driven applications, to use a desk system with DVI rather than a laptop with analogue graphics.
