Has anyone sent Sony HS50 away for firmware upgrade yet?

Hi, I have arranged for my HS50 to go to Sony at Pencoed but just want to check that it's worth it. Do they fix the 720p overscan, and do they do anything else? Has anyone had this fix yet? Please help!

I have had discussions with Sony here in Perth and they don't appear to have a clue.
I'm not that concerned at the moment as using 1080i via DVI to VGA converter into VGA input in the Sony and am getting excellent picture -subject to source material.
Oz now transmits a high proportion of telecasts in HD format - Quite breath taking.

hi there.
not sure if pencoed is in the uk but i have returned my hs50 to sony uk primarily as it was faulty but i also requested that the firmware be done at the same time.
i returned it over a month ago and i've recently been informed the pj is fixed but awaiting the firmware upgrade.....
i was advised it should be back at the store i purchased it from approx 5 days later but that was a week ago now and still no sign.....
hope that helps
paul

I am in the same situation as Paul, I have been without my projector for 5 weeks and am not too impressed by the Sony service.

I dropped mine off with Gultronics today so they can send it back to Sony UK to apply the firmware patch and to fix the panel misalignment that is causing the final vertical row of pixels to be green - all this after two AE500 bulb flickers problems last year

I have just rung Discount Electrical to see what the situation is. Apparantly there is some delay with the firmware with no date available as to when it is expected to be resolved
I am not impressed with Discount for failing to inform me of anything over the last six weeks unless I pushed them or Sonys poor service.

Sorry Paul, do you mean your projector was meant to be back at the shop five days after the call you made, or five days after the firmware is upgraded (which sounds like it could still be some time).

It was meant to be back at the shop in 5 days, Paul's was sent back for repair just after mine to the same place. We were both told that the projectors were both repaired but sat on the shelf awaiting firmware which could take a few days to get sorted. Mine was posted back six weeks ago today, not an acceptable situation imho.

yep,zig is correct.
i was advised it would be back with discounttv approx 5 days after the call i made.....
i was also advised it was only a few days earlier than the call i made that sony service centre had been set-up for the upgrades, now it seems they aren't even ready.......
i heard from discounttv yesterday saying that the firmware update is still not done and no date is know either.
this totally contradicts what i was told earlier and i am now getting very frustrated.......
sony really do need to sort themselves out.
cant really blame discounttv (apart from lack of frequent updates without being asked) as they can only tell us what sony tell them.
hopefully it wont be too much longer though.
i just hope they advise me of the day to expect it to be delivered back to me so i can arrange for someone to be home rather than just send it and i miss it......
all the best
paul

I think we can rest assured DIY and gardening will not be interupted by film viewing for at least another weekend
It makes you wonder if its some sort of conspiracy.
