Post Projector Demos ?

Hi

I come from the south west of England. I would like to demo some projectors and screens. Any advice on where I can go? I don't making the effort to travel, so long as the dealer is worth the visit.

Many thanks

Jason

Hi Jason - I live in Gloucester, and I've not found anywhere yet.

If you don't live in London, the South / East, or near Glasow you're a bit stuffed from what I can see.

Slighshot (Wiltshire) kindly allowed me to join his loan viewing Sanyo PLV30 / SONY VPL10 - see thread elsewhere - borrowed from Audio T - swindon - but he's bought from there before, and it was a home loan. Unlikely if they don't know you.

Can your local (Exeter) Audio Excellence help you?

If not - Rackams in B'Ham apparently have some? projectors on demo - seen it mentioned elsewere on this forum.

P.S - If you DO get lucky - pleeeeaaaassee let me know!

Cheers

Hi Nick

I would use Audio Excellence Exeter, but I have been in there previously, and the sales guy snubbed me as I bought most of my gear elsewhere. They were so unhelpful, I would rather go to Londaon and spend my hard earned cash with a dealer that cares.

thanks anyway

PS If I do find somewhere I'll will be posting it here.

Cheers

Jase

I'm glad this question was posted. I live in Bristol(work in Swindon) and have been looking for places to demo projectors like the Sanyo,Tosh, & possibly Sony. I'll have to look up both A.A. and Audio T. Swindon during the week, Gloucester on the weekend.

I heard there was a place that sells/demos projectors in Weston Super Mare but I don't know the name. I just met sombody who lives there. I asked to borrow their yellow pages!
I'll let you know if I find anything there as it's closer to Devon.

Cheers,

WSquared

WSquared - sorry if i'm stating the obvious, but just to clarify that A.A = Audio Excellence. They're on the Bristol Road (Glos) ironically - come off the M5 at J12, follow the signs for the city centre, if you reach the UCI cinema/burger king - you've gone just a little too far (A.A are on the left, by a lighting shop, and a VW spares shop).

They had the Sim2 in, then the Davis before that - they currently have nowt (was in there today collecting an Arcam Amp I blew up!). They're getting the Sony in (VPLW10) but not sure when. 01452 300046 is their number. If you mention my name, they'll cringe, barf, then laugh!

Do bear in mind, they concentrate on 2 / 5 channel audio, not really on visuals (tho they have a few Lowewe -or whatever - TV's).
Point really, is they are excellent with their service and recommendations - don't expect them to know that much about projectors tho..

Oh - there is a guy in Bristol, who specialises in Projectors, and advertises all the time in HCC. I phoned him, and he's fine, but obviously does not like "time wasters" - he basically said that what he sells starts at around £5k upwards, so I doubt he'll have anything "affordable".

Hmm - maybe we should stop screwing around, and get a dedicated shop sorted somewhere in the South West!!!!!!

Jason - here lieth (unfortunately) the problems with these "franchises" of sorts.

A.A In Gloucester are fabulous. Mind you, I have always bought from them - but they will go to any lengths to do what they can (currently trying to get me an NEC VT440 loan), and have lent me kit when mine's in for repair.

Audio-T in Cheltenham, are.... let's be diplomatic and say - "not as good" - yet Slighshot (another forum member) has top notch service from Audio-T in Swindon... They lent him 2 projectors and a screen for a week!!

As you say - if something becomes available, i'll post it here too.

Cheers.

Thanks for the contact info for A.A.

The guy you are talking about in Bristol(V' Audio) that does projectors works out of his house(Stoke Bishop) less than a mile from my house. He's an old bloke and as you said will only bother with you if you are going to spend lots of money. He really only does CRTs and very expensive Hi-Fi anyway. He considers himself a consultant and doesn't seem to want to offer any advice for free. Not quite the kind of place I feel comfortable in. Basically, he's posh and I'm not!!

That's the chap!

I can understand his "look, you're only phoning me for free advice, and you're not going to buy anything" attitude, but it's a quick way to warn off those that may actually have the dosh!

Look at me for example.. Well, you'll have to take my word for it - I walk into a store with a leather bikers jacket on, and get crap service - they don't get my money. I walk in and someone see's a customer, and doesn't judge by appearance - they get my business. You never know who has money, and it shouldn't matter anyway...

Can you tell i'm in a customer service role?

I haven't been able to track down the place in Weston Super Mare, but I have found a place in Bristol. Merlin Visual Aids. A guy I work with has bought several projectors and Plasma screens from them at his last job. I still can't work out how I haven't come found them before. Anyway, I'm going to go and see them soon to find out what they have and then maybe arrange a demo of some projectors. Here are the contact details for Merlin if you are interested.

Merlin Visual Aids
Days Rd
St Philips
Bristol
BS2 0QS
(0117) 941 4636
or .......1561

Cheers,

Wsquared, if your in Swindon pop into Audio T and ask to speak to Andy, I'm sure he'll try and sort out something for you. He doesn't know masses about projectors but he's always helpful.
