Blue Fringe on (lcd) Projected image. Bulb or LCD Panel faulty?

Hello all. I have a Sony VPL CS2 which I have had since new. Up until now there have been no problems. It has about 1600 hours bulb time.

Lately I have noticed that the projected image has a vertical blue fringe at the right edge of the image area. As time passes, the fringing appears to be slowly extending further into the image area. At the moment it is several centimetres wide on a (w)2m x (h)1.5m viewing area.

I am hoping (that's 'hoping' in it's loosest application due to the cost of bulb replacement) that it is a bulb issue rather than an LCD panel issue.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions or at least give me a clue as to the reason for the blue fringing.

cheers.

Unlikely to be a lamp problem, possibly deterioration of one of the polarising filters.

This is a one of the more common faults on the earlier Sony CS (ie 1 &2) models, it is a sign that the LCD are on the way out.

I used to have a CS1 and before buying it I was told to check out for any untowards blue on the screen.

As I know three-fifths of sod-all about actual projector technology, is the LCD replaceable? And if so, how do they relate, costwise, to a bulb?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the are frighteningly expensive, and as such they really aren't worth replacing. It would probably work out cheaper to replace the full unit.

Sorry

Re: Blue Fringe on (lcd) Projected image. Bulb or LCD Panel faulty?

Hi,

I've been given a Sony VPL-CS2 projector, but when I switch it on, although I do see the picture it shows a bright yellow dot in the middle of the screen.

What is this and how do I get rid of it!!

thanks,

Steve

Many years ago I had a similar 'blue tint' problem.

I ordered a replacement 'blue polasising' plate from sony (£55 i think) and had a go at fitting it myself as I was happy to change the PJ if I messed it up.

It fixed the problem and the PJ lived on.
