Gaming PC Projector

Basically I am after a projector that would be ideal for pc gaming. I would ideally like to run games in a high resolution that are compatible with my 9800pro.

What are your views on gaming projectors?

Would it be better for me to spend my money on a 21” TFT screen?

The projectors I have looked at are: -

Screenplay 5000
Screenplay 4805
Iiyama LPX 150

hi mate im getting the sanyo z3 tommorow for just the same thing as u games and dvds with my pc and my ati 9800 xt card this looks like a great pj and for just over a £1000

I will have a look at that projector today on the web. Can anyone recommend a better projector than the ones discussed so far?

Why is the sanyo z3 a good choice for gaming purposes?

I'd say you want to go for something with a very good bulb life.
On gaming, you'll be putting a lot more hours onto the unit than most people who watch a few 2 hour DVD's a week.

In thinking about this......
Rather than one of the projectore talked about here, which are tuned more towards home cinema, would it not be better to go for something more geared towards Data projection?
Which the majority of projectors seem to be still.

How does the Iiyama LPX 150 projector sound? I have always been pleased with the quality of there products. Some feedback on this product would be fantastic.

Data projectors are not the way to go as the same principles that apply to watching a film apply to playing a game. You definatley need a high def pj (ae700/Z3/HS50). I have an AE700 which has a lamp life of 5000 hours, and have clocked up 1400 hours already

I use the pj for watching DVDs/TV/PC and playing games. If you have a chipped XBox you can play some games in Hi Def

and all PC games are also Hi Def. The next gen consoles out soon are ... Hi Def. I think any of the 3 pj's I mentioned are v.good and you won't go far wrong with any of them, also the Hitatchi seems to be praised in these forums too! Anyway good luck!!

Are not the colours, sharpness and brightness of these projectors better suited to computer graphics?

I've no idea myself, I'd like to know why they are no good for gaming as that would seem to be well suited.

i think it is probably related to displaying the fast moving images and the diverse colour pallette. data projectors are designed for powerpoint presentations, fairly static images with few colours.

Final conclusion: -

So what is the best (budget) projector for gaming at the present time.

I wanna make a purchase in the next few days.

Data projectors have been looked at in reviews and these forums and generally fall short due to refresh rates (as stated above), light spillage,conectivity, lumen output, contrast ratio etc. Games I would have thought offer the pjs a harder time than films as a lot of them run at 60 frames per second and are Hi-Def! I'm no expert but the general consensus is that they are not up to the job. As for which pj - I have read a few reviews saying the AE700 is the best pj for the money , and a few reviews saying the Sony HS50 is, but without started yet another 'which pj is the best' war

I will say if you read these threads too much you WILL GO INSANE with the 'mines the best pj..' constantly ringing in your ears , without the people actually telling you why

. Try getting demo's of the machines, and weigh up the price difference etc. One of the main reasons I bought the AE700 is that has a 5000 hour bulb life (1500 hours clocked already), and that I needed high def for games and all the new HD movies coming out. Which ever pj you buy I don't think you will go far wrong - so happy shopping
