Question regarding the Sony HS50 manual

In the VPL-HS50 manual, whenever an installation table appears, Screen Size (SS) is mentioned.

Exactly which size are they talking about? Width or screen diagonal?

if you gop to sony uk website and go to hs--50 specs it tells you diagonal . i had to check when setting mine up
