Two little projector problems

When I play ripped films etc that are on my Hard drive they show on my LCD monitor but not on my projector screen can anyone suggest why this is?

Or how I can fix it? When I play DVD's it works! but not when play stuff off hard drive

Just got a gfx card for xmas to allow use of DVI but i get this flicker quite often in the top part of the screen in actiony type scenes.

Could this be the DVI cable quality? I noticed it more with older films like Top Gun than i did with say Blade II

They are probably in a screen resolution not supported by your pj. In any case, I can't see any point in doing this, because the poor quality will only be exaggerated by increasing the screen size. You can get as many movies as you want for £13.99 a month from Blockbuster or Tesco.

Nick I think you misunderstood regarding the quality, I rip full (ie no loss of quality) dvd's to HDD and keep a rolling collection of my origional DVDs on HDD as it is easyier than swapping discs about (eg Lord of the rings is easier to swap over cos you dont have to swap the disks)

As for the reason they dont show up on the second monitor it is somthing to do with copy protection and using overlay, there may be a way arround this but I dont know how to. I presume that you are using the DVI out as the secondary monitor? Do you need the LCD connected? If you only connect thre projector via DVI and tell it is the primary connection it will work then. Other people may be able to help though with the way you have it now.

Cheers
Robert

not sure if this is the same but when connecting a laptops tv out port to a tv it will display the desktop and programs on both screens simultaneously however video can only be displayed on one screen, on many laptops you have to select the option (normally using the function buttons) to only use the tv out socket.

look in your graphics card settings for twin monitors as it is likely that your graphics cards cannot output video to two sources at one time.

you need a program called ultramon mate.
i was running a pj/lcd monitor scenario with the pj as primary screen and the lcd screen as secondary, but with all programs running on secondary and only films running on pj using ultramon.
do a search and all will be revealed.
hope that helps.

Thanks for all those replies guys.

Been reading a number of forums and I used a quick fix for it.

I have a XFX Nvidia 6600GT and so I set up two profiles one for my viewsonic and one for my projector I simply just switch from one to the other when I need to. I only use one or the other at a time anyway.

As regards to viewing the films, I had to mess around with video settings in WMP and the others, a few I was unsuccessful with.

I had some flickering on my projector image when watching DVDs using Power DVD to correct this I disabled hardware acceleration and they work really nice now.

I will now go and check out this ultramon program as this is not the first forum I have been on which has mentioned it!

Again thanx for all your help.

Big screen gaming is immense, and anyone who plays 3rd person shooters and doesnt have a nice surround system, get one. Camping is so much easier now, I can easily identify where others are approaching from! haha
