I've tried to connect my Apple TV to my optima EP720 using a HDMI to VGA converter. When I switch the Apple TV on the Apple logo appears on screen but then it disappears and the 'out of display range' message appears. Is this 'fixable' or do I need a new projector?

I wouldn't use a HDMI to VGA converter. Instead, use a HDMI to DVI cable (no converter needed)

1) it is much more likely to work
2) the picture quality will be massively better

I have to use a VGA connection unfortunately.

Unless the projector can handle 1280x720 via it's VGA connector (unlikely for a 2009 SVGA model), then I don't think you're going to have any further luck with this.

It doesn't really confirm anything... You need to check the owners manual and see if 1280x720 is listed.

I suspect it isn't... A lot of older kit can't handle 'TV' resolutions via the VGA socket - hence you getting no output from the Apple TV.

Exactly which HDMI to VGA converter are you using? 99.99% of these are rubbish - the only ones that really work properly are the HDFury devices.
