HS50 And Lumagen or H77??

OK- 3k+ ish to spend, small room, 13 x 9 light controlled.

What would give me the best vfm, Sony with a top notch scaler HDP+/IscanHD

Or Optoma H77?

I don't see rainbows, or more accurately only seen them once on v cheap pj

Anybody been able to compare?

While I do have an H77 I have to say its' on-board scaler is pretty unexciting, it's not bad but a Faroujda it isn't, and I'm not at all sure the PQ from a 'naked' 576p would be as clear and sharp as an iScan-ed HS50.

This is only a gut feeling though, I've not seen an HS50 and am going on reviews and comments of the PQ it offers .. I can't believe the H77 would be beaten like-for-like though.

The big thing for me is the potential for the best picture quality, as at the moment, there's only so much in the pot

The H77 is a great machine, although I've only clocked-up around 15 hours so far, its' increased resolution over my Z200E means I now have a great DLP picture without pixellation .. the lack of noise is impressive, something that was important to me and partly why I was prepared to fork out for one.

Im feeding it from a Pioneer 868 and also an HTPC, both of which of course provide pretty good scaling, when I feed 576p into it from the Pio using HDMI and let the H77 Zoom then I begin to see that its' own scaler is probably the weakest aspect .. it's not BAD but it could be better.

By chance, I saw the 77 being demoed at Sevenoaks in Bristol.

The picture I saw was simply fantastic to my eyes. Deep blacks, incredible colour and contrast etc. This was on SKY+ too. Once switched to DVD it looked even better.

I would have bought one on that viewing alone.

Problem is, it seems even if I blow my budget on a H77, I may still need a scaler

Guess I was kind of hoping that the HS50 would do it, but don't want to sell myself short

if it were me, id get the hs50, keepit for a year, then buy a true hidef model in a years time.

I dont think that either the hs50, or h77 are 'there' yet, but in 15 months i think there will be some nice toys.
