£500 budget for 3D upgrade advice please.

Hi,

I brought the Optoma HD600X last year and it has been great.
I have come into some cash (£500) and would like to upgrade to 3D.

I have had a look at the 3D adapter and glasses available for this model but, they seem to be outdated now including this projector model (there's a new LV model now)

My question is would it be worth me buying all the kit to make my existing projector 3D or should I use the money to invest in another and save for the 3D kit later?

The official glasses are around £50 each but, I have seen much cheaper versions on the market (£30 for 2 pairs). Would these cheaper glasses work with this setup?

Cheers

The lv version is brighter (not always a good thing )
As for 3d get the 3dxl add on and your good to go for around £200

Or your next option is a hd300x 1080p full 3d all built in for around £900

Personally I would sell the 600 for around £250 if its got low hours and put the money towards the 900 but even if you keep your projector and get a 3dxl you will still get excellent 3d better then any TV on the market ( I had a hd67 and 3dxl so I know it's good I have a hd33 now its the sister model of the hd300x

Thanks, I think I'll get the 3DXL box

Will any type of glasses work with this setup, or will it have to be Optoma do you know?

Has anyone had any experience with these on the 3D XL?

i have a cheap pair similar to those and they work fine with the 3dxl, however the best glasses by far are the z201 glasses that come with the 3dxl

Hi chic,

Thanks for the reply, when you say best do you mean they are built better or you get a better image?
Would there be any difference in quality (image wise) with these cheap glasses?

Acer h5360bd ? 3d ready with no converter needed like the xl, £430 plus around £50 for optoma glasses or you can get cheaper ones.

the optoma seem to be built better and are more comfortable to wear, image wise there is not much difference

Still can't make my mind up

I just can't seem to make a deal for a secondhand 3DXL or find a cheap enough new one.

I have raised a little more cash and been looking at this at PC World:
OPTOMA GT750XL HD Home Cinema 3D Projector Deals | Pcworld

At least this one has 3D built in which would be a big bonus!

I would then have to sell my HD600x (700+ hours used) to get the extra 3 pairs of glasses.

What do you guys think?

I have just noticed that the GT750XL is a short throw which means I wouldn't be able to just swap over on my current ceiling mount.

I have my HD600x at around 9" from the ceiling, 12' from a 90-100" screen and the GT750 will have to be around 5' from the screen. Looks like it's back to the drawing board

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for now, found one at SuperFi for £199 but, judging by the reviews the company has had I may as well just take my cash down to my local casino.

Currently contacting Optoma for recommended retailers.

Another option could be the Acer H5360BD. I could pick one up for £440 then sell my HD600x to get extra glasses.
