Need advice for outdoor music festival projection

I think I previously posted in the wrong forum category...

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help and time.

I have been handed a project for a very big music festival. One of the asks is that I project a looping image onto one of the round tents of the festival, meaning you'll be able to see a looping image on top of it at night.

I'm not concerned with getting the image visible during the day, this is just a night time thing. I'm also not concerned with warping as I know how to deal with that.

What I'm looking for help on is any advice you can give me regarding projectors and the distance/quality they can achieve? The festival organizers will be getting me the projector I just need to tell them which one.

the tent dimensions are attached. Lets say for now that I only want to project onto one side of it, preferably filling the entire side with the projected image.

what kind of projector specs do I need, and how far away does the projector need to be?

thank you very much for helping a visual artist completely new to projecting

Even though you are Using it at night you still need quite a bright pj. I presume you won't need HD quality so check these out 4000 lumens and upwards Professional projectors I believe some places rent them out too.

You could put some of the projectors in the link posted by Steve into the projector calculator to see what you'll get...

The Optoma GT750 is a relatively modest priced projector but has 3500 lumen which is bright by home cinema standards. It throws a very large image from just a few feet.

You could throw a 250" size image from around 12ft although how bright it would be I don't really know. But it will certainly be much brighter than most normal home cinema projectors without going into the super bright ones which will cost considerably more.

i'm afraid not. I can only try out small test which would be useless... how would i have access to a tent this size? the only time i'll have to do tests is the couple of days leading up to the festival (attended by 60,000 people) and by this point i need to have the equipment at hand, ie, the right projector...

Don't wish to dampen your enthusiasm, but sounds like a project of this size should be handled by a commercial firm with the necessary experience.

Otherwise it could be egg on face time!

colour will be black inside.

@tight You are right and Im speaking to them about changing the idea because what they are asking for will be too expensive as well...

Going to go with an indoor projection on the tent's dome ceiling... problem solved. It's going to be painted black inside to help catch more light?...

thanks for the help again.

Black won't work , you need light colour to project on
