It was just shown of at CES and was very good by all accounts.

Features the new Genum scaling/Deinterlacing solution.

Price will be around £8000 on release in or around May(i think thats whats been hinted)

The optoma stuff dosent even come close to this.(not that the H79 looks shabby mind)

best PJ at CES. but its due to the processing it features, which you will hear so much about very soon. its up there with the Realta based stuff.

Hold the phone people.

optoma have just anounced that they too will be using the genum VXP in future products. So indeed optoma may come up with a great competing PJ at half the cost after all.

Sounds good to me

I have seen S4. It didn't look like a colossal step over S3 to me. Indeed when I last saw it it wasn't too clever. I didn't see it this time around though so perhaps they've done some astounding upgrades to the chip and the hardware.

Also while the HQV (gennum competitor) does some things well when loaded with the Terranex algorithms it doesn't do everything well and not everyone will be choosing to use the Terranex algo's. Interesting times ahead.

The S3 is nice and I'd expect the S4 to be better again but I don't think we are talking quantum shifts in performance. It's still a single chip 720P DLP.....

Does make you wonder how many more revisions of the darkchip tech there gonna try and stick down our throats. Lets just get on to native 1080p and be done with it, then boost the contrast rations, etc etc once we have the native res we all want.

Out of interest from what i have read the S4 has come on leaps this time round

Lots of info on avs forum, try andrea manutti(somthing like that. anyhow hes had a fair bit of time with it so read what he has to say. hes a guy who realy does know his PJs)

Just one quote

"This is the BEST projector I've seen in Las Vegas, no matter the price, no matter the technology, no matter DMD numbers and whatever you might add!!!

It's spectacular: I never thought the S3 could have been improved by a great amount, but this is a high performing unit.
An incredible number of details on dark scene, a very fast rendering of any material you might feed it with, a natural rendering... an incredible performance!
And you now why?"

One of the threads with pics and info for a few products including the S4
