Upgraded from 3D-XL and HD600X to the HD300X - arrives today. I'm hoping playing PS3/Xbox is marginally better (due to native output only being 720p) in 3D. Can anyone give any personal experiences?

Cant see there being much difference with PS3 gaming really as all 3D games for it are 720p.

Hi guys

I wish I'd never found this thread, I was perfectly happy with my HD67 and the quality of the picture and 3D.. Now after reading all these posts I simply have to upgrade!

What I'm debating is whether the HD33 is worth the extra money over the HD300x.. I already have 2 sets of DLP glasses with my existing projector, I know the contrast and brightness is better on the HD33 but is it really worth £300 more?

Whats your thoughts...

Hi,

Can anyone recomend a decent surround system that would be good with this Proj ? around the 200-300 mark. Will i need sound delay with it and will i get it in this range ?

For that kind of cash i'd recommend you take a look in the classifieds, a good second hand AVR and 5.1 speaker set will be much better than buying an all in one surround kit, plus you will have much more flexibility in setting up with delays etc. For £300 you would easily get a good little amp and speakers.

Yes it's better as it upscales to 1080p it's not a world of diffrence but a step up from my hd67

Onkyo TXSR309 Black | AV Receiver | Richer Sounds

Add speakers and you will have a nice little 3d amp

Have a look round richer sounds website they have some good package deals
And a cheap Yamaha setup for £199 but make sure what ever you get has hdmi 1.4 so it can do 3d

I assume you weren't speaking from experience. Having now tried it first hand with Crysis 2 on Xbox 360 the differences are incomparable.

What used to look like a bit of a blurry mess but acceptable on the HD600X and 3D-XL now looks sharp as hell on the HD300X

I'm simply amazed at the difference in quality.

does the xbox use sbs for 3d ?

that would make a diffrence as the hd300 is better at sbs

The guy at intoav even said he made a mistake when pricing it all up for me, so I'm getting a superb deal I think considering the screen itself us almost £1k and I've got an extra pair of glasses too

Crysis 2 uses SBS on Xbox 360. It's just generally a much clearer image overall. The text for example was very low quality and now looks crystal clear. Will try some other games (I have most of the 3D library).

right!!!!! i have read this whole thread, im just back from richer sounds where i went to pay my deposit for my optoma hd300x (dont get my cash till friday and the 300x is a special order so went to pay the deposit so the guy could get it in the shop for me for friday) anyway, im putting the order through and the guy turns and says remember u have still to buy the 3d xl adaptor, i told him the 300x doesnt need it. but he says on his system it says i do, so i stuck by my guns and went ahead with the order and payed my deposit as i have bn reaserching the 300x and 33 for the last couple of weeks,(mainly on this forum), but on the bus home i kept thinking about what he said now hes got me doubting myself lol, could any1 here please put my mind at ease and confirm im correct and dont need to shell out another £250

also they said they couldnt price match the above glasses that toddy posted because they are a special order, bit dissapointed in them there since i just ordered the 300x,the yamaha rxv671, tannoy sfx5.1 speakers, sony bdps480 3d bluray player and a wall mount all in the 1 order,

There's a theory that the HD33 and HD300X are the same projector. I didn't think the premium for the HD33 was worth it and I'm very happy with my HD300X. If you have dlp
Link glasses already then there's even less reason for the 33 IMO.

Are you sure Toddy?
I thought it was only the hd83 that carries the full colour management system.
That's not to say you can't get an isf calibrator to improve your image, just that the calibration will be limited without a CMS.

Ok folks bit the bullet and bought a hd300x last week . It's my first dabble at watching my films through a projector and was a bit nervous about what sort of picture quality i would get but all i can say is the picture in 2d really is stunning , cant wait to try out 3d .

At the moment it's just projecting the image onto the wall and i want to buy a screen as on the lighter images i can see the pattern of the wall paper in the image, to be honest you really dont notice it unless you really look because you are engrossed in the film. The room has cream wall's and a white carpet .... not an ideal colour scheme but at night the picture is awesome. Am i right in thinking because i have such a light coloured room i need to get a grey screen? could anyone point me in the direction of a motorised 120-150" screen

Also i'm looking at getting some 3d glasses, now i have seen you can get the optoma rf ones, dlp ones also and nvidia also do some i think to go with their grfx cards. i have a media pc with an 8800 gt in it and watch my content with this pc. Can i ask which road to go down for the best image and are the most comfortable to wear. I have also seen maplins do dlp ones for about £40 are they any good?

cheers

It has a ifs night and day mode once calibrated the 300 doesent Im intending
To get mine done in another 50 hours if I can afford it

Not sure 100% if it has a full cms but it has more options then the 300

Nice one, didnt realise it had that feature- usually reserved for the more expensive models.

I'll add that it's significantly better at upscaling than that of the Optoma HD67n and in standard 2D with SD it's a massive step up from Optoma's trusty HD20.

The engine inside the HD33 is one picked from a model costing far more than the HD33 and it shows when seeing it in action against it's competition.

As for the HD300x, this get's the same image processor all be it a lesser standard version. It's a bit like Intel with celestion and pentium they basically do the same thing although one just has something that the other cannot deliver...It's the way of the World, cost and all.

Regards, Shane.
