Just wanted to report that my TW9000 is having some problems. It has been working fine, but sometimes when the projector is turned on, the lamp won't turn on. You'll hear the fan blowing but no light. After about 5 minutes, the red 'lamp' led blinks and that's it. Turning it off and on again solves the problem most times.
I tried re-inserting the lamp, without luck. So I returned it for repair.

I had the same issue with my 6000 - ended up getting it exchanged after a very long and frustrating wait.

Can anyone tell me whether Epson offers international warranty in European countries (preferably in Italy or Germany) for products purchased in Asian countries like China or Hong Kong ?

i`d have thought that to obtain a european warranty you have to purchase it from a european distributor.

Purchasing from Asia you are giving your business to them and hoping that someone else will pick up the tab if it needs a repair

Not 100% on this so maybe someone will correct me if i`m wrong

Thank you for prompt reply.

I was about to post an answer to my own question after having talked to Epson Italy a few minutes ago, unfortunately they confirmed what you're saying.

We have a similar problem here in the UK where some dealers are importing Epson pj`s from europe, selling on to end users who think that Epson uk will foot the bill if the unfortunate happens.

take it from me Epson UK will not entertain anything that they haven`t supplied, nor will JVC UK and i`d have thought Sony too.

Is it just me or does the offer of unlimited lamp replacements seem a bit odd. How many times do u expect to replace a lamp on a 3k projector in 3 years? Am trying to decide between new tv or projector and this kind of thing pushes me toward the former.

it must just be you

seriously now, its a warranty term which as far as I know is unrivalled in this industry.

what if your a heavy user of the pj, say 8 hours a day, after 125 days your lamp will have done 1000 hrs. if it pops you get another one free.

after another 125 days if the same happens you get yet another one for free, unlikely I know but you still have 845 days to go so why wouldn`t you want to have this kind of warranty.

more importantly once you go to a pj and a big screen I doubt you`ll ever go back to watching a tv panel, that said i`d keep a panel for everyday use and use the pj for movie nights and big sporting events if thats your thing.

My point is that if a lamp on a 3k projector went after a few months I would expect a replacement free of charge under the sale of goods act regardless of any warranty. Alternatively if that is considered to be within the acceptable range of performance of projectors then I guess I am not suitably wealthy to own one. Although I fully appreciate the screen size and 3d advantages hence my dilemma.

Shame you are in Leeds or I would pop in for a chat. Have been looking at this projector and the optima hd300x. Thinking the latter would might be a less risky (cost) first foray into the world of projectors but my room is not the darkest and wondered whether I needed something with more luminence to address this. Also not sure whether to go for Epson for its built in wireless or to buy a separate wireless hdmi solution. Your thoughts appreciated.

thats why the Epson warranty is so good

most other pj manufacturers give you 3 yrs on the pj but 1 year or 1000 hours on the lamp, this I think is pretty much standard across the board.

Whereas Epson give you 3 yrs on the lamp as many times as you want within the 3 year period, only on the 9000 though.

its my opinion but the 9000 will beat the Optoma into a corner, especially with black levels, it also has lens shift if this is a factor for you.

the extra lumens will also be a bonus in an ambient lit room

the wireless 9000W actually works quite well, we have one on permanent demo now in the white room we have here, its pointing at a Draper ReActll screen and really does look very good in an ambient lit room with windows and lights on

we are in Normanton by the way, about 15 mins south of Leeds and your welcome to call anytime

where abouts are you?

I am in Finchley in north London. Trying to persuade the mrs that a road trip to view some projectors on a bank holiday is what she really wants to do but running out of time. Maybe tomorrow morning though. Would love to see what they look like in a white room in different light conditions and if possible compare with the much cheaper optoma which for 3d looked v good but not especially impressed by 2d with a brighter room.

What fixed frame screen would folks recommend this this projector (I think I'm finally going to move from my KRP-600 to a projector, and give the non "bat cave" style of room it will be in, the Epson looks a strong choice)

In an ambient lit room if budget allows and i`m in fear of making someone sick and tired again when I say this, but i`d have to recommend the ReActll.

Until someone comes up with something else as affordable and as good then theirs honestly nothing else I can recommend that does as good a job what this does

Allan,

Thanks for the quick reply - I've seen your previous recommendations for the ReActII but couldn't see it in a fixed frame option? Or can it be done as a special order?

More info on the screens can be seen here: http://www.drapergroupltd.co.uk/en/p...d_screens.aspx

There are 4 options for the screen:
Frame vision
Frame vision with vel-tex
Frame vision light
Frame Vision light with vel-tex

For a 90" viewing dia (200cm x 112.5cm) you are looking at an RRP of anywhere between £839 and £1,082 depending which of the 4 options you go for above.

Hope that helps

Also just to add for other people who may want to know

the Frame Vision light is only up to a max of 240cm width, as the name suggests its a lighter section alloy thats used, only 50mm wide so doesn`t support the heavier weigh material.

The Frame Vision frame though, which is 100mm section can go up to a 420cm width without any issues.

Both frames keep the material permantly under tension across the whole area for a perfectly flat surface

Hi, just wanted to know. Am going for the epson tw9000 and going to buy a 120 inch screen.
Due to the limits of the room I need the projector at the shortest throw possible (around 3.58m)
I would like to order the screen now.
However, I need help with getting the correct gain screen, can anyone help advise me please?
It will be used at night in a dark theatre environment.
Also what is the idea fl for cinema?
Cheers

if in a dark room i`d suggest going with a gain of 1-1.2 gain no more with a matt white surface

this would be my recommendation if the room is a batcave with no or minimal reflective surfaces, if its going in a room which will be dark but has white ceilings and pale walls then i`d have to recommend a different screen surface.

We have a measured 14.5 flts in our dark room btw

come back with types of screen, ie: manual, elec or fixed frame along with a budget and we can go from their

You do mention what type of screen you are looking at, fixed, electric, manual?

ftl is recommended to be 15ftl-20ftl for home cinema, although many people are happy/prefer lower especially with bigger screens, and with extremely dark rooms.

You mention a dark theatre environment, is this painted, lined with velvet etc? This could make s difference to the recommendation

-It will be an electric ceiling mounted, probably go for a cheap one, unless it would make any marked difference to the quality.
I was just worried it would be too bright being at the closest throw and being a light cannon and all.
When I said dark environment, I haven't exactly done nothing to the room. It would just be with lights off, curtains closed at night.
I have magnolia painted ceiling and dark black wallpaper on projection wall and gold coloured paper on side walls.
The projector will be say on a table inside a bay window.

with having reflective surfaces you will find the image contrast is compromised if you use a white screen material.

these will be improved by using a grey screen (0.8 gain), or even better, a grey material with a little bit of gain which reflects minimal light back into the room, but maybe your budget can`t/won`t run to one of those.

What sort of budget do you have in mind?

-Thanks for your help and info.
Its advise I needed primarily.
I'm afraid I wouldn't be looking to spend lots on a screen, around £150 tops.
Im more concerned that I get a screen with the right reflective properties foremost.

with that budget you`ll only be able to purchase a very cheap white screen, untensioned.

it won`t do your intended purchase of a good projector any favours in your ambient lit reflective room .

I believe there`s a seller on ebay which some of the lads on here have used, no idea what the screens themselves are like though but I know they won`t be much good for that sort of budget and long term i`d have thought would suffer with edge curl and rippling, but who knows.

Yeah I take your point, maybe I do need to invest some more in a better quality screen.
What would be the cheapest screen price wise that would still give an acceptable quality?
Are manual screens better for stopping edge curls and rippling?
