i nead a smoke resistant projector

im after a good quality projector for playing my xbox and watching dvds mabye tv to if thats possible but it has to be smoke resistant..

ive found this one BENQ PB2120 from www.projectors.co.uk could anyone recomend anyothers for under £1000

Any lamp-based projector is going to need a flow of air through it to keep it cool. If the said air contains smoke, then the tar will accumulate inside the optics and it will go yellow.

To make it smoke resistant, it needs enclosing in an airtight box with an in and out vent to clean air from somewhere else.

There are only 3 manufacturers who make projectors that offer warranty for smokey environments. You have the Sanyo aircleanpro, mitsubushoi defender and I think any BenQ. Your only other option is to buy a cheap projector, and then a smoke box, but they are around £500 +.

Alas I do smoke like a trooper and own a Sanyo Z1, the other half made a nice cover for the projector partly for the whole smoking thing and to act as a dust protector.

I think if you break it down a couple of ciggies during a film isn’t going kill any projector, might shave a little of its life in the long run but hey fingers crossed we would have snubbed this dirty habit by the time it could cause problems.

But it's a funny old world we live in when people are more concerned about shortning the life of their TV projector but not so worried about shortning the life of their body!

This is one of the one's I was on about.
Ignore the Philips thing, as they are universal smoke boxes. The biggest problem you are going to have with this is the noise level.

Units can be purchased from here www.thefreshaircompany.com but they are designed for pubs / clubs where noise is not an issue.
I heard one of these babies when I was looking for one, but the fan noise is around 50 - 60db. Way too lound for home cinema.

In the end, I went DLP cause of the sealed optics and make sure the other half vacums the vents everyday when she is doin the hovering.

BTW - The BenQ is not smoke resistant, but they guarantee to repair any faults caused by smoke damage (As it's DLP, the only damage will be clogged fans).
