who hoo my instincts were actually right Now all I've got to do is work with her ladyship to work out the size of screen. Many mocks ups with sheets ahead of me I think. I wonder if this is something that we do after we get the projector? After all a huge sheet is much less attractive than a huge picture

I wonder if anyone can help me here - I am trying to buy the recommended mount from ebay and can't seem to a) buy it (somehow I fail to meet the requirements) and b) get any response from the seller.
Does anyone know this guy / have a spare mount / have any way I can get this mount? I don't know what I'm doing / have done wrong and am keen to get the projector on the ceiling out of harms way.
TIA
Miles

I don't know why you can't get in touch with him and I have never heard of him but why bother. There are any number of universal projector mounts available that will do the job from plenty of suppliers at similar prices use them instead.

PROJECTOR CEILING MOUNT BRACKET UNIVERSAL UP TO 10KG UK: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

The thing is kb - most of the replies to this thread (inc P1 and 2) suggest that the universal brackets aren't a lot of cop with many people complaining of lean, flop etc so I'm reluctant to commit up to 70 on something that has had bad reviews. I would tend to agree that I'm reaching the end of my tollerance for Himark though

I used Optomas own universal OCM817W mount, at £60 its not the cheapest but is very well built and put together. After working out to use just 3 short arms to attach it to the projector it is very easy to adjust and remove.

one of my biggest regrets is buying a cheap mount which is installed in the ceiling void and he stem hangs through the ceiling... i have to wedge it with timbers to make it level...
as with most things in life spend a bit more and get a quality product that works.
my other regrets are buying a budget AV amp that has handshake issues and scoffing at people saying future proof by adding extra CAT5e/6 cables, i now wish i had as i now have cables trailing around my room.

Many thanks for that unleash (and kb) - I have ordered the Omtima one and can't wait for it to turn up.

Next question - I have a digi box and a DVD player which I want to attach to the Projector and the TV - I assume that I use a HDMI splitter for this? Note that I've got a scart which serves teh TV from one of them at the moment. Do I need to run two HDMI cables to the projector or is there something which puts which ever signal I select (remotly) down a single cable up to the projector leaving one HDMI socket free for ad hoc connections?

Thanks

Miles

Hi, i have an hd200x and would like to ask something, might seem like a dumb question to many of you but i am a newbie. Well, does it make any difference to the picture quality to place the pj: (1) nearer to screen and zoom out (2)further away from the screen and zoom in. Can use both to fill the screen (which in my case is a diy ~108" grey screen). I think it may give a brighter picture to put pj closer because of the lumens.. but what about sharpness, blacks, etc ? Thanks

Closer gives more brightness as you have already said and further away you get better contrast so take your pick as far as sharpness it should not really matter.

The HD20 never did come down in price, it's a very popular PJ who do a good job for the money.
I payed 750 for mine nearly 2 years ago

You could look for second hand from when people trade up to 3D or more expensive projectors? Budget for changing the lamp sooner rather than latter though I guess.

The HD200 is currently £599 which is a ridiculous low price for it.

I've taken the plunge and ordered one of these (my first DLP projector) from Amazon as it seems a good deal at £599. Had been looking at the Panasonic AE PT 4000 but seems difficult to get hold of now that the new 3D model has come out.

I need to get a 5M HDMI lead next.

Arrives tomorrow but not to touch it until Christmas!

Spec sheet says the HD20 has better contrast but in reality they are the same.Of course the one is black the other white and the HD20 has a 2 year longer warranty but more expensive.

Yes. The HD200 has HD20 firmware. Just colour and warranty are the only differences.

My HD200.

I am really happy with hd200x and i dont think i'd pay £150 more for HD20's 3 years guarantee. Previously had dv10 and hd65 and never had any problem, fingers crossed the hd200 will be fine

hi all,
just a question on throw ratio for this model.......i'm looking at a distance of 3.2m and i'm getting different figures from diffrent sources.

...ones saying a min size of 178cm and a max of 213 ....which would work for me if i got a 6 ft screen (currently using a 5ft one) whilst another...calc. pro just states 224 ?....is calc pro just stating the 'maximum' size that can be acheived at 3.2m away ?

cheers.

edit.....optomas website says using a 195.5 (6ft screen) it needs to be a min of 2.56m and a max of 3.07m....thats 3 diffrenet figures!

Any recommendations for the following:
HDMI Splitter (I know some have Neet - anything better or will that do just fine?)
HDMI S-witch
HDMI C_able approx 4-5m so say 5

Many thanks - now in the closing stages of sorting this installation out and ideally want to have it up and running on the ceiling for Friday night when we have guests

Thanks

Miles
PS sorry for the _ in the text however this seems to be the only way to prevent spurious links...

Still toying with the idea of purchasing this pj. But what worries me is the black levels of this pj. Some reviews says it's not that great. My last disaster of a pj had poor black levels, pretty bad and very evident in dark scenes. And it wasn't that immersive as well.

One scene I always use to check for immersion is the opening scene in Revenge of the Sith. Now when I firsy watched this in the cinema, bloody hell!, it felt like I was in a fun fair ride!!! :D

Black levels are fine. Watch the space scenes in Avatar at the beginning and it is deep black. I ahve a fairly dark room too.

Thx for the reply! I'm that much closer in handing over my cash! :D My bedroom isn't the most suitable for a pj, but I will get a least a 90 inch image. I hv a tv for tv purposes positioned fine and then everytime I want to watch on the pj I will have to move chairs around the place, plug it in etc. cuz pj will be in a cupboard. Image will be in the opposing wall to the tv. Now to think seriously if it's worth that hassle. :D

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the previous and first time experience with a pj. Not sure will I get the real immersive cinema experience with my room conditions as is. Basically I want the immersion without the effort. :D

That would drive me nuts if I had to get the PJ out all the time. I have mine set on a micro Hi-Fi unit and it is lined up with the screen. If it is moved by a fraction and it can put the image out by inches.

My TV is under the screen.

The pj will be stationery inside the cupboard. Just a matter of get out and hooking up power cable and the hdmi cable, already plugged in the pj, into the media player.

I was thinking of getting a ceiling mounted screen above the plasma, but for my viewing distance it'll be too high. Put it infront of plasma then would be too close. So I'm now thinking of resorting the image to the opposing wall and pj in cupboard, if I do get it. Kinda messy I know. :D

why move the PJ out of the cupboard - can you not arrange for it to be on / in the unit and have the door open / some flap etc?

Yeah the pj will always be inside the cupboard and not moved. It's just that I have to open the cupboard door to get the cables out to connect and put them back in when I'm not watching, to be able to fully shut the door. I could cut a small bit off the door for the cables, dunno if I wanna do that, but I hv to open the door anyways to let the projected image out.

You need to be careful putting a projector in an enclosed box as it needs good ventilation or will overheat and blow.

When the door is open I think it should be fine. I hope so anyways.
