Dvi-D only carries a digtal signal, Dvi-I carries both a digital and analog signal which would work with your PJ via a dvi to vga adaptor.
I don't think you would see much improvement in pq as your will just have to downscale the image to fit the screen.
Your best bet would be to just run your 2800 in prog scan via component.
or you could use a HCPC with powerstrip to get 1:1 pixel match
