yuv component & y,pb/cb pr/cr

is there any difference between yuv component and y,pb/cb pr/cr?

reason im asking is recently bought z1 which im really happy with but wanted that little bit more from my pic quality, connections are as below:

Pace twin = S video
Dvd & xbox = composite

I thought id buy 1 of these rgb scart to component converters so ordered 1 from 1 of our sponsors( i wanted a component pic from any rgb source) but when i connected it all up my pic quality has what i can only describe as bad horizontal lines running all the way across the picture as if its bad interferance, tried different leads etc away from mains etc but same. so i think it must have something to do with yuv etc is there any way around this or have i got a dodgy converter or bought the wrong 1

i need some serious reassurance please

Does it look anything like the problem I have?

There is no difference between YUV and Y,Pb/Cb,Pr/Cr or sometimes just Y,Cb,Cr.
They all mean component video.
In YUV:
Y carries the luminance and sync
U carries colour difference-blue minus Y
V carries colour difference-red minus Y

make sure your device is definitely outputting RGB. Most DVD players and set top boxes will output RGB via the scart but check in the menu that it is set to RGB.

Jeff is correct. They all, for our terms, specify the same thing. Actually technically they do not but lets not go there ok as it's a pedantic can of worms.

Your horizontal lines sound like an earth loop to me.

firstly all boxes outputting rgb
secondly gaffer 74 mine are a lot worse than yours ive changed all the scarts, the component cables, composite cable, s vid cable moved everything away from mains etc and still no better the lines are like very fine but big wavy lines and sometimes straighten up a bit

Gordon, I have connected my dvd player using its YCbCr/YPbPr to the YCbCr component in the projector. Do I still need to select RGB SCART in the dvd menu to get the correct signal. (for some reason, I got an addendum with the dvd instructions manual saying that I had to do this, but I thought RGB scart was nothing to do with component?..........very now

PS What's an Earth Loop (apart from a ride at Alton Towers )

I would have thought that the YPrPb sockets on a DVD player would be un affacected by the RGB setting on the menu.

If you are using an RGBtoComponent convertor then set DVD to output RGB and set Projector to display component.

ummm. I am unsure if I am sending the right signal down my component cable. My dvd menu does'nt say 'component' output which is why I am assuming that RGB is the correct output to use.

I also have a 'shimmering on my z2' thread in this forum as I am having problems with region 1 playback. Any solutions or checks to be made suggested would be appreciated.
