ae 300 and dvi problem

hi guys,
i have just got a dvi lead and conected it to the pj,works fine but i cant seem to get the best screen size from my pc.i have a nvidia fx5200.i have read some threads about what size to set it to, i.e 960x540 or 992 x 558, when i change to these settings the screen goes black on my monitor and says vga not surport.i have powerstrip but unsure if iam using it correctly, i.e being a muppet and cocking it up.

1:1 mapping via DVI isn't possible with the AE300.

I'm not sure what the closest possible res is - try a search.
