Are there any rainbow free DLP's for under £1500?

Well, are there?
I want a new projector and I am loking a the AE500 or Z2 but before I take the plunge, wanted to know if there were any DLP worth looking at?
I know they have awesome contrast ratio and deep blacks - that I like the sound of.
But I suffer terribly from rainbows that I understand are caused by slow spinning colour wheels etc.
So, are there any units in this price range that have no Rainbows?
Cheers

Chris

No DLP units are rainbow free. However, the Philips Bogart machine for around £1,600 might be an option. IIRC, it has a 6x colour wheel. Do a search on this forum - there is a thread about it.

I was going to suggest the Bogart too.

I have seen one, but unfortunately it was in the worst conditions - no light control, and it was a concert, so was hardly able to guage its ability, but on paper it looks very promising.

If you can get a good demo, then that may be the answer for you.

Gary.

Any DLP with a single chip and colour wheel will not be 'rainbow free'. It may be so fast as to be unnoticeable to most (or perhaps all) people. But they will be there - and you may just see them.

Rainbow free would dictate a 3-chip device. As most (all?) LCDs are. 3-chip DLPs will come. In fact I recall seeing an announcement recently about a consumer model, but don't recall any details except that it was hugely expensive. I have little doubt that prices will fall in time.

I can only suggest that you take care when choosing. I believe that your eyes get 'faster' as yu get older - mine certainly have - so I'd warn that you may find the rainbow issue becoming more of a problem as time passes.

And - do consider demoing a good LCD. Contrast levels on these are improving all the time and you may find one that is good enough - without any risk of rainbows.

And dont forget....even if you dont see rainbows, your family or friends might.

Sadly its not allways possible to take them all to a demo, but at least try and take the missus.

Cheers,

Chipster.

I had that problem. I could see rainbows slightly but my wife had to leave the room coz it made her feel sick.

I almost bought one just for that reason

I'd suggest looking at the optoma H30 - this has a 4x 6 segment wheel.
I watched this device at CES for 15mins or so specifically trying to see rainbow effect (I saw it on the H56 and very slightly on a Sim 20) - I didn't see anything on the H30. It looked a very nice little PJ!
