Sony Hw10/15 or something else?

Decided to buy a Hw10 and found that most companies have no stock, or if they do have stock than the price is 2K+ (there are a few doubtful companies advertising stock at £1500) The Hw15 appears to be available on very few shelves and dealers I have spoken to seem to think prices have not been set and should be around £1700.

So that has put me in a quandry. I'm happy to spend £1700 + a bit and the pj I had decided on is in short supply, over priced or has a question mark over it's origin.

What to do ? I'm keen on the JVC range as an alternative but the price is miles higher (might be able to get a deal through a friend of a friend). Any thoughts this side of Xmas, or is it time for a new kitchen instead

I'm in a similar situation at the moment but the free lamp offer on the HW15 may have swayed me. Don't think the HW15 is available yet though. Prices I've seen range from £1915 - £2099. I may have gone for the HW10 if it was available at £4-500 cheaper than the HW15 but that doesn't seem to be the case.

My local exhaust centre offers "free fitting", but gives a 20% discount if you fit it yourself !

Off topic?

No, just a reminder that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Good luck with whatever you eventually choose.

Free lamp doesn't interest me as the pj only gets used for showing films about 50 hours per year. the Sanyo I have now has managed around 5/6 years and still has plenty of life left in it.

Much rather have the pj at a knock down price. Would consider s/h with low hours.

Depends on your definition of cheaper ! Sitting in the comfort of my own home without a load of mobile phone texting, munching, whispering and feet rammed against the back of my seat is worth a lot.......plus, the nearest decent cinema is 14 miles away, which means a car, tax, insurance, petrol etc........overall the pj is a lot cheaper.

Anyway, now i have proved my point answer the question please

I recommend that you do some trawling of the classifieds. A Panasonic AE2000 went for £900 recently and other similar (and newer) models sometimes come up.

I'm still trying to work out how you can get a new Kitchen for under £2k though (I'm doing ours myself in the new year and it's going to be equal to two JVC HD990s ).

zada_uk are taking offers on a hw10 on ebay; you could try 1500 inc. delivery (or even less) and see how it goes

Thanks, had a look but would probably prefer a brand new one if I went that direction. Still a little concerned over the dust problems associated with LCDs plus I have read of a few panasonics going pop in the night.

Don't know but they have a 99.9% feedback on ebay + top-rated seller status, so it looks good.
I did some digging on the Sony website, and zada_uk are also known as AN Audio - Anyone know them? Anyway they are a recognised sony dealer, so it seems above board.
