Problem with SVT 150 SELECO!

Hello,

I need your help because I am a newbie to the club!!!!!!!!1

I have the following CRT projector
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3000/dsc00030l.jpg

I bought the Onkyo 607 AV receiver

Now I am trying to have TV through a VCR to the projector, so that later I will connect a DVD.

I bought an RCA-scart cable and connected the VCR(video) to the Onkyo AV receiver. And then, from the MONITOR OUT of the receiver I have connected with the following cable the receiver with the Projector.
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1507/dsc00028ha.jpg

The result:

I have sound from the speakers connected to the Onkyo, but I have no video signal to the projector!

What should I do?

Here is the connection to the projector
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/273/dsc00019l.jpg
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3880/dsc00022h.jpg

Is it possible that the receiver is not compatible with the projector?

From the remote control of the projector I am putting the zero "0" number channel, which I think should show the signal received from the VCR-AV receiver.

Please be as detailed as possible because I do not know a lot of things!

Thank you in advance

Re: Problem with SVT 150 SELECO!

Yassas!

First, go to CurtPalme.com Home Theater sales, calibration, service, and discussion forum and download the Seleco SVT150 manual. Seleco Tips and Manuals

If the display on the back of the projector shows "PA1" then you have made the connection correctly. If the cable is good and there is a signal from the VCR then this should give a picture.

Do some simple things to check that everything works...
  1. Connect the VCR directly to SCART 1 on the projector. Use a SCART to SCART lead. If that cable is short then get someone to hold the VCR close to the projector. Make sure the SCART lead is connected to the TV/AV socket on the VCR. Play a tape in the VCR so you have good signal. This will show you that the projector works with a video signal.
  2. Disconnect the VCR. Reconnect your cables from the amp. Check the Onkyo amp settings (see the Onkyo manual):
    * Is Monitor Out switched on and set to Composite Video? You should get the Onkyo menus on the screen for the projector. This proves that the video connection from the amp to the projector is good.
    * Is the cable from the VCR to the Onkyo amp good? SCART to Phono cables are directional. Make sure your cable gives a signal from the SCART end to the phono end.
    * Is the input on the Onkyo amp set correctly? You need to set up Picture (video source) as well as setting up Sound (audio source).

The projector is compatible with the Onkyo amp. But you might need to do some setup work on the amp to make a signal at the monitor output. Check the Onkyo manual. Make sure that the input settings are adjusted correctly.

Regards

A service will cost you more than the cost of a newer generation s/h Seleco.

"s/h" is an abbreviation for second-hand. So we are talking about a second-hand Seleco projector.

As much as I know people love their old Seleco 150s there does come a time when it is prudent to retire the old girls. If you are looking at a hefty repair bill then I'd suggest that time has arrived.

Fitting a new bits in to an old chassis could cause as many problems as it fixes. You need to think very carefully whether you are prepared to sink £100's in to a 15 to 25 yr old projector when similar working examples fetch little more than £50 on Ebay.

Later models (Seleco 350, 400, 450, 500) are more advanced and do look nicer. They're cheap too right now. So it's a perfect opportunity to add some additional features such as 16:9 mode, component inputs, and PC inputs on the higher end models.

Thanks for your reply Chris.. A guy from Torquay reckons he can fix it but he wants £350 to repair and service.
So i took your advice and got one off e-bay a lot cheaper, it also works which is a bonus,,,but its set for a 6 foot screen
my old one is set for a 5 foot screen.. Is it easy enough to adjust down to a 5 foot screen?

The answer kind of depends how confident you are with DIY jobs. There's not much that's particularly complicated, you just need to be able to follow some instructions methodically. Are you good at that sort of thing?

Well then, you'll need to set the projector at the correct throw distance (screen width x 1.5), then open the lid and make some angle and focus adjustments on the lenses, then finish off with controls on the back panel.

The user manual is available to download from links in this forum. It's OK, but not a comprehensive guide. However there's plenty of info about convergence, most of it written by me, in this forum too. Have a go with the search function to find the posts. If you're still stuck then I wrote an idiots guide to converging 150's which takes you through the process step-by-step and tells you what tools you need as well. It's not free, but it will save you a lot of time.
