Which display technology is the best?

hi,

my mate has a mitsubishi xl5u projector and the image quality is awesome. Iv been looking out for the same one but have come across a ex100u.

I have looked at the spec and the only difference i can see is the ex100u uses 1-3 chip DMD, 12deg, DDR, DDP2000 display technology where as the xl5u usespolysillicon LCD panel x3 display technology. The ex100u however has a higher brightness in lumins.

Which is better? and is there a huge difference?

The two specs i reviewed are below:

Mitsubishi XL5U projector(PDF doc)

Mitsubishi EX100U DLP Projector

Thanks

Re: Which display technology is the best?

home use (tv, xbox) with a screen size of about 60 - 70 inch. My friends xl5u is used for home cinima and picture quality is awesome.

I just wanted to know if picture quality will be lower with the technology used in the ex100u projector as it dosent use lcd technology.

thanks for the feedback

Re: Which display technology is the best?

As Steve has said these are primarily business type projectors and are not naturally suited to home use for viewing movies or hd tv material.

One is LCD tech whilst the other is DLP both techs have there positive and negative elements.

I would be looking at a projector with a widescreen native format rather than the ones you have shown which are 4:3 like pre widescreen tv's.

Re: Which display technology is the best?

I have owned four projectors; LCD (twice), DLP and DILA. All the technologies have their compromises but overall I reckon that DILA just nicks it as it produces a sharp, blur free, punchy image with no rainbows?

With respect, how many other projectors have you seen in order to come to this conclusion?

I too was impressed with a "business" PJ which my daughter brought home from work.

That was until I saw a proper demo of a "Home Cinema" projector, which was 10 times better!

Do tread carefully before spending a lot of dosh!

Good luck.

Re: Which display technology is the best?

Yes for the money on the ones you have pointed out you could get a 1080p 16:9 home cinema projector which would give you a far superior picture than the PJ's mentioned. Check out some of the threads on this forum!!
