What Projector for £800??

Hi,

Well I'm about to take my first steps into the world of Projectors.

Could anyone offer any advise as which one to buy? I have a budget of £800 (I don't have to spend all of it)!

I'd like full 1080i but looking at the cost I might have to settle for 720p.

Any advice gratefully received.

Tom.

Re: What Projector for £800??

For 1080p there is really only one choice and it's a cracker anyway. The Optoma HD200x at £799 or maybe a smidgeon less if you look around.

It is dlp so get a demo first to make sure rainbows are not an issue.

Failing that you are down to 720p and Optoma HD65/700x/7000gt (all the same really) or BenQ W600 all around £500.

Re: What Projector for £800??

kbfern took the words out of my mouth and makes good recommendations, if you do see a demo and dlp does cause you issues with rainbow effect then you may also want to consider some LCD options the Epson TW450 or TW680 (both 720p).

One other to consider on DLP 1080p would be the Vivitek H1085FD, specs on our site. 2000 lumens, 5000:1 contrast, ISF calibration setting, 6 segment colour wheel. One of the best entry level 1080p projectors around. It is over the £800 budget but at £913 inc VAT it's a fantastic projector for the money and for that additional £114 over the Optoma HD200x your getting a projector punching a level higher in performance.

Re: What Projector for £800??

I would like to stick vote in for the Epson TW680. I have had mine about a month and absolutly love it. Great picture. Awesome for films/tv/gaming. Plus very very easy to set up with its massive lens shift.

Re: What Projector for £800??

Wow thanks guys. OK so these are all great projectors. My next question is does 1080i matter? Should I get a 720p if that is a better projector, is £800 to low for a good 1080i?

Also, what is rainbow effect?

Thank you,

Tom.

Re: What Projector for £800??

Afaik, there isn't any 1080i projectors. Sure, they can all take 1080i as input but it will still come out as 720p or 1080p.

What are you using that is 1080i?

Re: What Projector for £800??

Our stock is due to arrive by the end of the week, once they are here we will run a test against the HD200x and see how they compare. On specs it should perform very well to date I've only seen it stand alone so have not compared side by side. Will get something posted on our site as soon as the stock arrives.

Re: What Projector for £800??

Shouldn't it be the Vivitek 1080HD or is that the US model number?

Crikey, that will just confuse people as they all look pretty much the same. The 1080HD hasn't even come out yet in the UK and now there is another two !

Re: What Projector for £800??

H1080FD is the first model in this series. H1082FD and H1085FD incorporate advanced features, such us ISF, which allows the color calibration saving preset adjustment in a non-volatile memory for further use.

Re: What Projector for £800??

The H1080FD is indeed the first of the 3 models to hit the UK from Vivitek, but stock sold out within one week. We have just managed to secure stock on the H1085FD.
