Need help on what projector and screen

I am looking to build a home cinema, but I am not sure whether to install a screen and projector.

I have put a picture below (not built yet) to see if it is possible, the width is 3.5m, So i guess it will be about 3m from projector to screen.

I am wanting the projector ceiling attached and the ceiling is 2.3m high.

How wide a screen could I get in front of my LCD. I am wanting an electric screen and the max width I have available is 3m.

Would the distance from the screen to the projector limit the size of the screen or can all projectors do my size.

I would appreciate any advise on makes and models of projectors and screens, I am a virgin to this area of AV but am after a 1080p capable projector.

Thanks in advance.

Go for an eight foot (2.45m) wide screen max - that'll look plenty big enough from 3m.

JVC 350/550/750/950/990 are highly rated, and run quietly, so could sit on a shelf above your sofa. Optimum height is just below top of screen.

750 - 990 can be calibrated accurately for colour.

350 and 750 have just gone out of production, but the odd one comes up at quite a chunk below list.

Re: Need help on what projector and screen

Looking at your sketchup I would say the door is the limiting factor on screen width (think beer runs and toilet breaks if the screen blocks the door). Get a tape measure and measure from the middle of your LCD to the doorframe and double it. Voila screen width!

As to PJ how much do you want to spend?

Re: Need help on what projector and screen

Hi thanks for the comments so far, much appriciated.

The gap between the wall and the door is just over 3m.

Would I be able to put speakers behind the projector screen? Would it interfere with sound?
