Optoma EP1080 Projector

Hi all,

I am a new member here on AV Forums, so a big hello to everyone!

I am looking for some advice on the Optoma EP1080 projector. I have been looking at one which is for sale (ex corporate machine but not been used much). Are these worth buying? I have seen the machine and the condition is excellent. Its done some 150 hours use, so nothing excessive.

You comments on what to look for, or what I should pay for it would be welcomed! Are there any alternatives on the market etc.

Re: Optoma EP1080 Projector

Hi

As you might guess this is a business type projector more suited to boardroom/classroom type use as it is a very bright projector usually used where a fully darkened room is not possible.

I see they usually run near to £2k to buy new,I would only buy it if you can get it for less than £1k as there are more suitable projectors for home cinema use available for around £1k new.

Optoma do the HD20 for £900 with 3 yr warranty and also HD80(just going discontinued) for £1200.

There are plenty of others for similar money from Mitsubishi,Sanyo,Benq,Infocus to name a few.

Re: Optoma EP1080 Projector

Thanks for the reply. I can buy it for £1200.00 which isn't at all bad. I am of the understanding that the brightness can be controlled using filters on the lens so maybe this wouldn't be a problem?

Re: Optoma EP1080 Projector

Sure you can knock the brightness back by 50% with an ND2 filter for around £20.

But at the price they want there are a few projectors available brand new with warranties.

If you want a projector for home for watching the movies in a room you can make dark my advice would be go for one of those.

If you want to watch movies in a half darkened room(they will still look washed out)get the EP1080.It's your choice and your money.

Re: Optoma EP1080 Projector

Actually you could get a bright 720p projector such as the Optoma or as I have the Infocus X9 for 490-540 and films and Sky HD would probably look better than the above PJ for less than half the price.
