I would love to get a good DLP if I could afford it but on the topic of "rainbow", I pick up on it quite easily

. I currently have an AE300 and I have a friend who wishes to get a PJ. We went to a local store and checked some projectors out. They had a cheap DLP on display; an LG unit of all things. The blacks were nice and absolutely no screendoor effect but the rainbow was dancing away for me. The salesman and my friend at first could not see it but I have found that if you move your eyes horizontally left/right quite fast then you seem to pick up the rainbow effect more easily in high contrasting portions of the picture. As soon as my friend and even the salesman did this, sure enough, they see rainbows. 3 out of 3 people saw them. Okay so maybe you wouldn't scan or view a movie with rapid horizontal eye movement but once you know it's there the brain seems to pick out the nuances anyway. It's a bit like how you see the shadow lines on a Trinitron tube and from then on you notice them more easily next time, but in the case of "rainbow", I find that intolerable.
I once saw a DLP with a 4x colour wheel and I couldn't see rainbows but it was beyond my budget
