Fitting PJ wires through ceiling

I posted this over at DIY but have not had a response so thought I would try here.

I am hiding m PJ wires in the cavity above the ceiling and need to make the hole where they come through neater. Above I will put some silicone around the wires so insulation dust does not shower down on me when I’m eating my popcorn, but I need some from of grommet to go under the ceiling room side to neaten things up.

I suppose that ideally I could do with something which splits in half in someway so that it can be fitted fairly tightly around the wires.

What are you guys using?

I also need something to go over a hole in the wall where I occasionally poke some PC cables through and the best I have come up with so far is the socket faceplates which have hairs which you can push out of the way. Is there anything more suitable?

Re: Fitting PJ wires through ceiling

I was in Wickes the other day and came across a 'brush lined outlet plate'
Very similar to this, I couldn't seem to find it on the wickes website.

Cut a dry lining box into your ceiling, and screw one of these plates over... a neat solution!

Re: Fitting PJ wires through ceiling

Brush plates are the neatest option really as mentioned above.

To tidy up the ceiling, I would install a faceplate onto the ceiling rather than just having the cable coming through loose.

Re: Fitting PJ wires through ceiling

I'm going to install a 13A socket (fed from a UPS) in the ceiling.

That way the PJ remains powered during the run-down period, it can be switched off when I go on holiday, and can be easily disconnected if I ever have to take it down for cleaning/repair.

Re: Fitting PJ wires through ceiling

I used a downlight ring (but without the lamp in it), so it matched the rest of the downlighters in the room. No brush material in it but you didn't see anything unless you shone a torch up there. I don't think a single gang brush plate existed when I built my room (2000) but that's what I'd probably use next time. I would think you could could even paint it to match the rooms decor if it wasn't white.
