So, it's been some time since I left my last post and since it seemed like no one has any experience with these devices, I've decided to leave a post for anyone in the future who may have the same questions as me.
After endless comparisons between Optoma PK101, 3M MPro110 and Aaxatech P1, it came down to 1 thing, LCoS vs DLP. Yeah, arguably DLP could possibly be brighter, but the "mesh effect" of DLP just totally turned me off from it. The P1 also had the higher resolution between the 3 models, 640x480 vs 430x320.
Ordering my P1 from www.aaxatech.com was quick and accurate. The order went through and my order came within a few short days. The order was for a P1, extended battery kit and tripod. The instruction manual was minimalistic, but figuring out the P1 wasn't too hard.
The P1 was smaller than I expected. I'm use to seeing big bulky projectors that I was a bit surprised and skeptical at what a tiny thing like this can do.
I wish I can take a picture of it projecting up to an 80" image, however the image wasn't that bright, contrast wasn't great, and the room had to be pretty dark, so I would say the safe size to go with this is about 40-50" max. Otherwise you just lose too much video quality for any viewing pleasure.
I wish I had a better camera to take videos in the dark, but this video on YouTube is pretty accurate to what it looks like when you keep the image in the 40-50" range.
I know some people may be scoffing at these devices which I don't blame them. If you want an image only a home projector can provide, this won't do, but, if you're into gadgets and like something small and portable, this is definitely a fun gadget to have. I personally enjoy the portability of being able to just move my "screen" wherever I want to whenever. It has a built in speaker, but, you really need an external speaker to make it a bit more enjoyable. It'll be interesting to see how bright they'll eventually get these small units to be.
