Best CRT for Home Cinema

Hi,

Im a new member to this forum.
Im looking for advice with regard to the following: (no financial constraint)

1. Best CRT for 10-14 foot diagonal screen (Barco??)

2. Distance from screen to projector for above screen

3. Who best to install this in UK

4. Must be able to handle all modern input signals

Thank you
Hendrik

Re: Best CRT for Home Cinema

Personally I prefer Barcos. A nice 1209s,1208 or 808 model. I would also suggest a smaller screen of 80-96 inches wide. Both projectors can accept all signals including HDMI with the proper adapters. For HDMI you will need an HD Fury.

There are also lots of used Barco parts out there but tube condition is a huge factor to consider.

If you are using PAL instead of NTSC you might have some width issues and might need a scaler.

Hendrik
Are you familiar with CRT setups ?
Have you seen one in action in a proper home cinema ?
Where abouts in the country are you ? Becasue that may affect who is best to install.
I agree with Tom on the screen front that you may be getting a bit big and with a CRT may loose all the quality advantages that you get with CRT.

If you are down south or coming this way happy to show you a 1209 / 808 in action.

Re: Best CRT for Home Cinema

Barco Cine9 with HDMI input module is in my opinion the best you can buy.

With no £ restraint and a big screen then a "Blended" projection system is the very best you can get.

Yep, blend is the way to go.

The question then is do you go for a 16:9 screen with a two-projector blend, or do you go for gold with a 2.37:1 screen and three projectors.

Re: Best CRT for Home Cinema

Setting up and maintaining two or three overlaped projectors as your first CRT experience may not be the best option.

Re: Best CRT for Home Cinema

^^^ No one ever said it was going to be easy... but hendrik did say "no financial constraint" so let's have some fun with it for a while

Actually this does raise a very salient topic - running costs.

It's all very well putting in a stunning home cinema, but if there's no money to keep it going then it'll lose its appeal really quickly.

Actually Chris for a 2.4 scope screen you need only two Pj's , the 4x3 tubes with the 10-20 % overlap give a perfect 2.4 screen image.

Thanks Tom and Roland

I take your point on screen size. 84 inches could work.

No I am very new to this and is really researching the whole field to learn as much as possible. Mistakes are usually expensive.

I live close to Gatwick, and I have never seen a proper installation. I would love to see the 1209/808 if possible before xmas.

Mr H
Who is the south east supplier of Barco Cine 9?
I dont think I want to go to the "blended" option at this stage. I was assured that Barco delivers a great picture for home use. Do you agree?

For supply then either MMH or Roland would be a good place to start. For installation then Roland; he's the closest installer.
