Re: projector help

You should be looking at LCD projectors as they generally have the shortest throw lenses and also the biggest zoom range so giving you the largest screen size.

What models to consider is based on your budget and do you want 720p or 1080p.

Re: projector help

Steve

I have completed setting up my system and found the projector central website very useful for checking throw distances and screen sizes.

Sony VPL-VW100 Projection Calculator - Throw Distance and Screen Size

I managed to pick up the Sony VPL VW100 ex demo at a very reasonable price (even allowing for the hours on the bulb) and have to say regular DVDs are amazing on the 110" screen and Bluray is simply fabulous! More the problem has been practical things like fixing it to the ceiling (it's 19kg) and cabling (I ended up needing 15m!) but it works fine now.

Re: projector help

thanks for the reply guys, the room will be 12ft x 12ft (or 12ft x 16ft if i decide to go through the planning process). i'll take a look at the links posted. I already have a screen play 5700 but the picture size is somewhat hampered by the distance i have to play with. Projector will be ceiling mounted.

Re: projector help

Steve I think Optoma (maybe someone can help) do a short throw projector which should be ok? That is quite a small room for projection seating wise too!

Re: projector help

You should be able to get a 100" diagonal with the hd20 from 10feet , if it's possible to get so close to wall. In a smaller room you will have more heat coming from the projector too. I think it will more comfortable in the 12x16 room.

Re: projector help

If you want real close you could use the Hitachi A111 it will give about a 100" picture from about 18" , it will mount above your screen on the same wall so mounting is easy and it is moterised so folds itself away when not in use.
