hi guys

i have a 42 plasma and have had it for 2 years with no problems, but do you guys with projectors use it as a tv,video,dvd ect? and not have a normal tv.

Generally no. I use mine for occasional tv viewing, such as watching the footy. Ideal for me when I cant get to Highbury & for away games

I bought it purely for dvd's and the sky link is a bonus.

I have mine on for coronation street and virtually any excuse to put it on really :D

however i've only had it for about 1month and when i have to buy my first bulb for £300 or whatever it costs thats when it will probably only be used for dvd etc lol

I have a panny AE100 and use it all the time. Makes the lounge much bigger not having a 29" CRT sat in the middle.

Also means I have more room for my speakers.

Only downside is that room needs to be darker than when watching a TV.

I have a TV upstairs in the lounge and one in the bedroom.

However, I tend to gravitate to the proector for any "normal" TV viewing, DVDs, X-Box, etc.

I don't have a TV.

I use the projector or occasionally my 17" LCD monitor.

thanks for your replys, i was thinking of getting a projector when the plasma packs up one day!! but only if i know others use it as a tv as well.

The downside to using a projector to watch tv during the day time is you generally need to have a dark room to get the most out of the picture. On a bright summers day this means you would need to have the curtains closed and all the light off. This is impractical if your house is anything like mine and the tv is on most of the time when anyone is in the living room.
I only use the projecter as a tv at night when the curtains would be closed anyway.

I was starting to think I was the only one who thought it impractical to have just a PJ.

I think the question was also aimed at not just the practically of daylight and nightime etc, but do you use it for DVDs only or for any sort of TV, and for me, any TV but yes only at night when its dark :D

It depends on whether you need the picture to be "big" or not...

I usually only watch films and sport on mine as most ordinary programmes look big enough on my ancient 21" telly. If any programme would look better as a larger picture, then I put on the pj.

I'm waiting for lcd prices to drop a bit before replacing the telly with a 20" widescreen tv.

I have a blackout blind for the summer which in conjunction with curtains works fine even when the footy is on in the middle of the day.

I have only just got my first pj but intend to only use it for dvd and xbox, saying that i dont really watch a great deal of tv anyway. I have kept the tv which is in a different room so when my girlfriend is watching soaps i can go in the other room and play xbox . Oh will definitely hook it up to a tuner for Euro 2004 and get my mates round

Had my PJ a month and haven't got it linked to anything but DVD and PS2. Watch TV in the living room on 40" Tosh RP. Not practical to put PJ on to watch news headlines in the am! However, biggest plus of PJ is that it is in a separate room and it is so much like (but better than) going to the cinema. Dark room needed though, but that adds to the effect. Wouldn't be without a TV but the PJ is the best Home Cinema purchase I've ever made. There is no going back!! (Cue very expensive upgrades and a bigger house for the Sim 300, eventually) (Sanyo Z1, 7' screen)
