A bad home cinema evening

I came in from work and did what I usually do - switch on the Tivo and then the projector. Except it seemed to take a few goes to get the Tivo to work. I presumed it was the angle of the dangle and thought nothing of it. My Infocus 5700 did its things and all was well with the world.

Later in the evening I decided to have a fiddle with the PJ. Discovered that something had gone awry with the remote. Selecting any item from it's menu seemed to trigger off madness. The menu highlight ran up and down the menu - continually. I also noticed that the Tivo remote seemed to be triggering the PJ - something it's never done before. I did manage to confirm that it was not the PJ. Controlling the menu from there worked fine.

I wondered of the weirdness was due to the Tivo so I switched it off via the remote and my amp and digibox. But still the problem with the PJ remote continued. This was then compounded by the inability of the Tivo to switch back on again. Eventually I unplugged it and then put the power back on. Now all I get from the Tivo is the "Welcome - Powering Up" msg. Anddddd the PJ remote is still up the swannee.

I've changed the batteries in both remotes and reset the Tivo handset.

Anyone got any suggestions ??? Is the Tivo in terminal failure mode ?

I'm going to xpost this to the Tivo forum so apologies for anyone who reads this again.
