So in essence. They are saying that the performance of both machines are nearly identical in terms of brightness, contrast, pixel structure and noise and that you can't go wrong with either model.

Yes but the Panasonic is more useful to tweakers due to its more extensive menu settings while the Sanyo is better for people who project off coffee tables due to the lens shift.
