Question Projector Bulb warning on BenQ PE7700

Hi all,

I'm seeking advice on my BenQ PE7700 - I've had it for a good three years or so and never had any hassel, and recently I started getting a warning that the bulb's life has expired and must be replaced. Checking in the projector menus it says the current bulb life has been 1957 hours, although I have noticed little loss of brightness, so I'm wondering:

- Should I wait for the bulb to "blow" before replacing it, or should I replace it now even though I've noticed little degradation of the picture quality/brightness?

- If the bulb "blows" does it risk any damage to my projector? What does the bulb "blowing" entail?

- Do these warnings come up based on actual diagnostic, or just at a specific time in the life of the bulb (i.e. 1950 hours)?

Thanks for any and all help!

Re: Projector Bulb warning on BenQ PE7700

The reason for the warning is, if your bulb blows as you have stated, it can do damage to your projector, hence the warning.
I doubt very much that you would want to have to pay for 1 or more LCD panels, if it is a 3 LCD projector, to be replaced because you did not heed the warning, or if it is a DLP, having to replace similar components.
You are in no way covered by warranty if the globe decides to become unstable, pop and throw shards of glass into your expensive PJ..
I would run down to the nearest stockist of this bulb and replace it..
Making sure you correctly install the globe, if you don't know how to do this, make sure you get some one that does, and make sure to either reset the globe hrs when the newer one is put in, or make note of the hrs now..

Hope this helps, also one more thing, get the globe cheap, no harm in getting a good $ on it.. Don't pay RRP..

The lamp on your pj is rated at 2000hrs in full and 3000hrs in economy mode, which setting have you used.

If in full mode get a new bulb but if in economy I would contact BenQ and ask their advice if you need to replace yet.
