Used Hitachi PJ-TX300 or new hd65

Got the chance of getting the Hitachi PJ-TX300 for £350 , second hand, in mint condition, but with 2200 hours on eco mode.

Os should I spend an extra £100 on a new hd65.

I suffer a bit from the rainbow effect , the tx300 has lense shift which may be useful but not essential.

Which will give the overal best picture?

Well you really should factor in a new bulb for the TX300 which is going to be around £150 and then you'll still not have warranty on the projector.

Well, in terms of performance. The HD65 will have better real world calibrated on/off and ansi contrast ratios. Not by a huge margin but it will be there.
On the other hand the TX300 will be a lot quieter and have lens shift which can be enormously useful.

You should shop around a bit for a tx300. Two of my mates got theirs brand new for £400 each from richer sounds when they were doing them as a clearance item. They've sold out now though but you must be able to find one secondhand a bit cheaper than that surely?
I've got one that I want to sell as soon as I have got some spare cash to upgrade to 1080p, I was going to sell for £200. Didn't realise people were prepared to pay that much for them!
