Using projectors outdoors?

Hi,

I've been thinking of buying a projector for some time but have just really got into comparing the different models available, aiming to keep as much under the £500 limit as I can.

The Optoma HD700x seems the best choice, though correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I have a question that doesn't seem to be answered in all I've read in the existing threads.

How does it function outdoors?

I'm interested in the possibilities on using a projector as a way to play a 360 outdoors, the screen kept in as much shadow as possible but with still obviously a large amount of ambient light.

Does anyone have any experiance of how its 1300 lumens look in these conditions?

And any opinions on downgrading to say an Acer x1230 for the large jump to 2400 lumens?

Thanks (y)

Re: Using projectors outdoors?

Also, after finding an old thread about projectors outdoors, I would like to refine that I would be projecting at most onto a 40" screen from a short distance, I'm not looking for a large screen, just a way to go against the sterotype of gamers all being pale skinned :P

Re: Using projectors outdoors?

Apart from the reduced contrast from ambient light, I would think that the biggest problem, at least in the evenings during summer would be keeping the insects away from the projector.
