Post Projector ceiling mounting

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anybody could help me out. I have a DLP Projector that I would really like to mount onto my ceiling. However, the room in which I have my projector is the attic and therefore the ceiling is a 'trianglar' shape. Does anybody know of any mounts that I could use or how I could go about installing a regular mount to my ceiling. My projector is an Optoma EP721 however I wouldn't mind using a mount to fit this projector or a universal mount. In addition I wouldn't like to break the bank on buying the mount.
Many Thanks.

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Well - here's mine - came from ebay too - from the US - very cheap too i thought at the time

I screwed a few wooden blocks together - and then attached the mount to that - and have a moble hanging down - to stop me walking into it!

Just watch out for the heat that the PJ generates - the Sanyo I have is OK - but my previous one used to blast the ceiling somewhat

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Hey JCQ thanks for the tips however by looking at your photo's it seems to top of your attic ceiling is flat. Mine goes up into a point as you can see by looking at the photos I have taken. Once again can you point me in the right way of purchasing a suitable mount.

Thanks.

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Just to let you know my projector is a Optoma EP721. If I was to buy a universal mount would the screws fit my projector?

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Ah - mine has about 3" wooden flat section in the apex - so I just screwed the blocks to it. The mount I had was much more like mechano - rather than a more fabricated mount

I got mine from these guys eBay UK Shop - Projector-Gear: Extensions, Optoma mount with Extension, Sony Mount with Extension
But i must have an older model - these are more £ than i remember

A few thoughts
- perhaps you could make a v shaped block to mount the bracked on
- make a shelf?

But - firstly watch out for ventilation IN - and heat OUT - with mine - it was the heat out that made it lower than the PJ otherwise could have been

Also - projectors are HEAVY - watch out that you've screwed anything into something solid! I remember being nervous when i let it go for the 1st time

I did wonder whether i should put mine under a table - and "hide" it that way - would make getting the cables there easier - something else to condider (as if you didn't have enough!

Cheers
jcq

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Yea I shall try out these ideas and have a look at the mounts. If you come across an ideal mount for me send me the link and that would be great.

Thanks Alot

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Well - we have skimmed plasterboard - on top of 3" thick solidish foam type insulation - we also have the eves at the side - with "cupboard" type access all the way along

So - made a 2" sq hole near the PJ - got a long stick with string on it - crawled along the eves - and got string caught with a coat hanger. Then pulled the cables through with the string. So easy to say - but in practice...

I've covered the hole with a light-switch cover & the bristles from a letter box - looks really professional for pennies - it's mentioned quite often here

I'll have a look for "my mount" - but whichever type you have you still have the challenge of somehow mounting it in the centre of the room? (i think i should have centred the lens of mine - rather than the PJ itself - although I've mostly compensated for it.

I'll take a close-up of it - when I get my son off his PS3

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

The cables - through the plasterboard - along behind the eves - and then backout in the corner - where all the gadgets are

the mount as you can see - not much to it. I had to get new bolts & washer/spacers to make this mount - from my 1st PJ - fit the Sanyo (which was a lot bigger and heavier than i was expecting!)

Post Re: Projector ceiling mounting

Some very good ideas there. What's the cable clipped to the ceiling? Im just curious about it.

I also have cupboard access so I could go along the line you went in which to sort out the cables.

However, I would have to make a decent size whole as I am using a VGA cable which has quite a big connector.

Another thing is, do you have a connection type box in the corner to connect the wires into like schools use?

Many Thanks for you help!

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

The clipped cable - power - the Z5 has a funny power connector - so - i added a single socket onto the ceiling - and plugged into that. Then - it's really a just a long extention lead - round the back - back through the wall - and plugged into the existing socket - i didn't want to start rewiring things!

Connection plate - perhaps these guys? (I got my Tannoy speakers from them - a bargain going the rounds a while back) CPC | CPC - Over 100, 000 products from one of the worlds leading distributors of electronic and related products.

Re: Projector ceiling mounting

hi there, not sure if this is exactly what you need in regards to faceplates.. but i spent ages looking for a set of faceplates i needed to suit my install. if you can, check out out my recently bought items on ebay (user name is mcilveen6991), the sellers might just have what you need.

be warned though, i got a scart and vga vaceplate.. and even my electrician looked at it and refused to attempt to solder it together.

the double hdmi one is simple, i just need to plug a long cable into the back of it.

good luck - you'll need it!
