Got my NEC VT45 setup! (Warning 56k'ers Pictures)

Finally got the projector today

Took some setting up but after around 3 hours I'd got it just how I want it.

Mounted the VT45 on an old 14" TV wall bracket Recycling is always a good thing.

Using it via a HTPC since the picture is terrible through the s-video and composite.

Very pleased with the results for only a £400 projector and a £250 92" Dalite model B screen.

I've had to defocus the image slightly to help reduce screen door so that why the images look blurred but its a sacrifice I'm willing to make for now.

After reading various threads I'm going to invest in Hoya HMC FL-Day filter to help the situation.

Also using the projector in eco mode 2 so light output is around 700-800 ANSI lumens instead of 1000. But to be honest its only a slight brightness difference between the two, which I was surprised about. This increases the lamp life to a reasonable 2000hrs up from a shocking 1000hrs. Thing is its already got 561 hours on it, so a new lamp will be needed in the future.

Can somebody tell me why even though its in eco2 it still only counts to 1000 but at a slower rate?

But so far its surpassed all expectations.

You really can't go wrong for £400.

Photos don't always tell the whole story with projected images, but those pictures look pretty good to me.

Looks like you got a great deal that works well. I'm particularly impressed with the skin tones. NEC make great projectors don't they?

Going HTPC is the best way if the pj doesn't have a decent scaler built in IMHO.

Gary.

Cheers Gary.

I'm happy with the performance bar the screendoor.

If you take a look at the lion king picture in particular you can see it pretty easily (the background).

But with regards to contrast, blacks and colour rendition its absolutely fine.

I had a VT440 for 18 months with similar results. It was only the move to a 28ft lounge that got me to change! HCPC is the way to go, though component in via VGA gave excellent results too.

Watched the Matrix Reloaded for about the fith time earlier today and just had to show you this shot of Carrie-Anne Moss.

She is one ugly dog!

Checkout the nose, hell the lips are even worse!

Ugh! She truly is a poster child for the prevention of inbreeding.

Got it in one.

If you imagine a very fine grid overlaid on the picture its about right.

Sometimes its noticable but most of the time it isn't. I've found its worse on bright uniformly coloured backgrounds - like the rockface in the lion king or a sky etc.

Its just something you have to learn to live with on the old budget projectors.

Its certainly not detracting from my viewing pleasure yet but I know there are LCD projectors out there, such as the HS10 with no screendoor to speak of.
