Optoma H78 RGB sync problem?

My forums / web searching has turned up nowt about RGB (normally discuss DVI) so here's a new thread...

When connecting my Optoma H78 to a Harmon Kardon 25 DVD player via the RGB component output, the image is totally FUBAR'ed. The PJ does the sync OK and identifies the signal as 720 x 576 x 50Hz but the image is all over the shop. Works fine on S-video and the same component output works fine into a Panasonic AE200E PJ.

I seem to recall that when using a component connection, one of the signals (green?) provides vertical / horizontal sync... is that correct? Could this be the cause of the issue?
Or something to do with progressive scan? (enabling or disabling on the DVD player makes no difference though).

Any advice on getting this up a running would be greatly appreciated... the home cinema has been refurbished over the last 6 months with plenty of blood, sweat and tears so very disappointed to find this unexpected hurdle so late in the game.

Thanks
Gav

Re: Optoma H78 RGB sync problem?

One type of RGB has sync on Green others use seperate cables for the sync signal, some projectors can accept sync on green RGB some might not. DVD component output is however usually YPbPr not RGB. Some projectors automatically detect the signal type, some may not. If the image is the wrong color it is because it is set to RGB rather than YPbPr. If the image is wobbling all other the place it is because it is not able to sync. If the projector has settings for tracking, vertical sync, fine sync, etc... these may help it achieve sync.

Thanks for the guidance.
Having looked through the PJ menus there is nothing obvious to suggest there are sync settings which can be altered, only H and V position. I will have another look tonight though.

Re: Optoma H78 RGB sync problem?

Problem solved - the green and blue (Y and Pb) were hooked up the wrong way round on the DVD player. Note to self: do not connect devices late at night in subdued lighting
