How to solve - 1080i/50Hz timing problem

Hi,
I am using an HTPC –> DVI output -> Greg's DVI input-> 1209S.
In order to connect an HD receiver (as Sky HD, etc), what is the less expensive way to solve the bad 1080i/50Hz timing problem.

Thanks.

This was mostly a problem with early gen HD Furys. I think if you do a bit of research on Fury II or the FC4 you'll find it is much less of an issue.

Thanks,
To be more specific - Does the Fury II or the FC4 solve the problem of picture is not wide enough with PAL 1080i/50Hz materials?
Thanks.

Re: How to solve - 1080i/50Hz timing problem

It is worth remembering that when the 1209s was in production any source above 1024x768 was mostly 5x4 aspect ratio. these were called data/graphic projectors because that is what they were designed to do. As the tubes were 4x3 then the issue was only one of filling the height. and the width didn't need to go to the edges.

Then come allong us lot and can see the home cinema potential. and suddenly they are being asked to do a liitle more.

I am assuming that you have your max picture width P2 setting on the power suppley up against the end stop. Whilst the service manual states how to set it it up for 48 volts etc, sometimes you have to break that rule. (bear in mind you will probably lose the ability to show standard 15khz video and may be even vga 32Khz becasue the set will go into scan fail

Also because you are using an HPTC you have to be aware that it may not be filling he whole scan. You can check this by turning down the contrast and upping the brightness. You will see the picture area but there should also be an area of black either side. If it is excessive then the issue is a PC one.

Re: How to solve - 1080i/50Hz timing problem

Thanks,

With the HTPC there is no problem at all with 1080/50/60Hz (ATSC or PAL materials)
I am facing that the picture is not wide enough when using an STB box as SKY HD or DREAM BOX 800 connected directly from the DVI/HDMI/COMPONENT video output @ 1080i/50Hz directly to the 1209S's Greg's DVI or port 5 input.

Due to the 1080i/50Hz known issue of the bad timing settings for the HD-PAL (front porch, back porch) with the HTPC the problem is solved very easily by using the Power Strip SW,

So I am looking for a "low cost" devise that is able to correct the timing settings. The best solution will be a scaler, but it is not cheap even at this day……

Thanks.

Re: How to solve - 1080i/50Hz timing problem

I had the same dilemma a few years back - I was happily HTPC based for SD and could modify timings as required.

With the advent of HD, after much angst and anger, I bought a scaler. It was expensive, it was painful, but the problem went away!
