Problem setting screen drop

Hi Guys,

I have a Grandview Cyber electric screen which is less than a year old. Since installing it behind a pelmet (see my sig) I have had ongoing problems with setting the drop. Otto from Beamax (which I believe are identical screens) very kindly sent me free of charge an allen / hex key to set the drop. My problem is that no matter how many times I rotate the key in the hole it makes no difference. The screen just keeps rolling out until I manually press the stop button on the remote or would retract into its case if again I didn't press the stop button again. Without me having to undo the pelmet, take down the screen and send it back does anyone know if I 'm doing anything stupid or a fix to this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Paul

Re: Problem setting screen drop

Hi Paul,

I'm assuming it worked before you adjusted the screws, so I can only suggest that you pick one screw only and adjust it 1/2 turn at a time until the screen stops without you pressing the 'stop' button. With my new Beamax the lowering adjustment is the screw towards the rear of the case (though it does say in the instructions that it can vary depending on whether the screen drops from the front or back of the case). Mine drops from the back of the case for reference. Clockwise adjustment raises the drop point (which seems to be what you're after) on my Beamax.

My only concern is that you may have adjusted the screw beyond the limit of it's travel, or the microswitches have become dislodged. In this case you will need to remove the screen from your pelmet. Hopefully it won't come to that (I struggled to install mine recently in a pelmet that I'd built for my previous screen, so I feel your pain ).

Re: Problem setting screen drop

Hi Kelvin

I love your 2.35 screen by the way! I have just bought a new PJ, a sony HW10 and am delighted with it. I demoed an ae3000 and liked it very much but couldn't justify the extra £4-500 for the zoom pre-sets - I don't have the horizontal width as my screen is in the bay.

I hope I haven't screwed up the settings as i dread the thoughts of unpicking the pelmet, just when I'm investigating masks and ceiling blinds!

I'll let you know

Paul

Re: Problem setting screen drop

This will help you

Grandview Cyber - Home Cinema Projector Screens, Electric Projector Screens, Pull Down Screens, Projection Screens

you need to read the last .pdf about adjusting Grandview screens or Optoma Panoview ones.

Hope this helps?

Re: Problem setting screen drop

Thanks for the link Stubie - but I fear I may have to remove the screen from the pelmet. I'm going to give the allen key one more try at the weekend then if that fails I will have to do a major unpicking job.

Kelvin, I had never set the drop before so I can't have over turned the screws, it has been this way since I got it. Due to ongoing refurbishment of the house this is the first time I have had the opportunity to adjust the drop. Do you know if it is possible to reseat the microswitches if they have become dislodged?

many thanks

Paul

Re: Problem setting screen drop

Sorry Paul, I've not dismantled a screen before myself. As you say the fault has been present out of the box, then your adjustments haven't made any difference it could be something like a wire off inside. Given the hassle returning it I can only suggest opening it up to see if there is anything obvious and if the microswitches are not loose and rattling around inside.

Sorry to hear it sounds like you'll have to lift it down. Best of luck and post back with any pictures/questions if you do deceide to open it up and need help.
