Is this 100" (2.5m) electric screen good for only £80 new?

Is £80 to cheap for a 100" (2.5m) projector screen. I have a Dell 2300mp projector which will be 5 metres away from it. Can anyone tell if the one linked below is any good or is it too cheap?

100" Motorised Projector Screen Electric DLP LCD HD on eBay, also, Projectors, DVD Home Cinema, Consumer Electronics (end time 21-Feb-09 19:22:41 GMT)

Cheers for your advice as i will be buying one in a few days as I want to put it into the ceiling before the builders put the plasterboards up.

PS: I have built a gym but dont know if i should put it in there or in my living room where I already have a 40" Sony.

Cheers,

Tony

very good for the money motor no the quietest but the screen was very flat apart from slight curling on the edges but the black border is their so it does not affect picture

Hi the screen has to be 2m across by 1.5m up (4:3 ratio). Have you had a look at theone attached? The one you bought is matt white which I have being checking out reviews but they all say that the glass beaded ones are better?

Re: Is this 100" (2.5m) electric screen good for only £80 new?

Forgive me for intruding.
I just noticed the seller advertising this screen as:
DLP LCD HD
Max Resolution (pixels): 1920 x 1080

This is all complete rubbish and this form of false advertising winds me right up.
Only the projector can offer resolution. The worst thing for me is that this screen is glass beaded which turns a full hd image into a pixelated image therefore lowering the quality. I have proved this several times, LIVE to customers.

Sorry to the seller for stating the obvious. I do not mean to be offensive.

Although I appreciate there are smooth surfaces which some people believe to be better for Full HD, there is no such thing as a projection screen being HD Ready or with Resolution. It's a piece of material ! Just because it has a smooth surface does not make it High Definition.

Very cheap price and for those who 'Must Have' a white glass beaded screen due to the inability to control the light (not good for home cinema unless your desperate) then fair enough and forgive me for barging in.

No, your advice is good - thanks. I was under the impression glass beaded was the best type!!!

I will be using it in my home gym so there will be 2 x double flouresscent tubes on (not directly above as I can independantly switch off another 2 dbl tubes I have which is in this half of the gym. So when looking at fitness vids or something it will be usefull.

When just watching films there should be blackout as I will get blinds and curtains over these for my windows and door.

So is Matt white better? Every ebay place is advertising how good Glass beaded is compared to Matt White?

PS: At present I only have a Dell 2300mp but not sure if I will get a better one later. I will be hiding the screen in the ceiling so its important i buy the right screen.

Cheers

Tony

Also what would be the cheapest projector lift I can get to hide the projector in the ceiling? Or can I make this?

Cheers

Re: Is this 100" (2.5m) electric screen good for only £80 new?

I hate to dish a product but I know of one UK projector screen supplier that imported very very very similar screens to these, well over 100.

Each one was wired up wrong internally, it was something to do with an earth lead They had to open every box, every projector screen and resolder the leads correctly. Does anyone know if these are CE approved? I've looked on the Chinese website and cannot see anything about being CE approved.

I have to say for the price you cannot grumble and I guess they might give you an electrifying image

LOL, was that a joke? 'electrifying image' due to the 'earth lead'?

What's the difference between a White and other colour (ie grey?) whats the best?
Also, I still havent got a resolution on if I need a matt white or a glass beaded one? Am i correct in assuming that the glass beading is good with lights on but crap when it is totaly dark? and the matt white is opposite to this?

PS: How do you know these are from China and how did you find the website?

Guys, below is a few pics of my gym (not finished yet) where I want to install the projector and screen. Any ideas and things I shoud consider. let me know

Re: Is this 100" (2.5m) electric screen good for only £80 new?

Hi Tony, Sorry for the delay in replying.
Looking at your images and the spec of the projector, my recommendation would be to use a High Contrast grey surface as the contrast level on your projector is low but the brightness/lumens are quite high for a home cinema environment.
I appreciate you may wish to watch the projection during the day at which point I would recommend blinds instead of a glass beaded screen.
An alternative would be one screen for daytime use like a glass beaded screen, carefull of the viewing angles as I would imaging you will not see the image at all if you were bench pressing due the retro-reflective properties of most glass beaded screens and a HC Grey screen for evening/winter use.

Hope this helps.

I was thinking about getting 2 but am not sure how they would both fit into the ceiling. One i can fix to the side of a joist.

Also, What is a 'blinds' type of screen which you recommend? I have never heard of this.

PS: Is the viewing angle better on a HC Grey screen?

Also, what would be good for playing a nintendo Wii on. I dont have yet one but i was thinking earlier today that this would be fun to get and use on a big screen?

Hiya Tony,
Most HC Grey (matte) surfaces have the same viewing angle as Matte White. It's only the high gain surfaces like glass beaded that reduce viewing angles.

The video/picture quality on the Wii is not as good as the Xbox or PS3 and in my experience, the Wii soon looses it's apeal, even on the big screens.
I have been enjoying the excellent quality of the Xbox via HDMI (HD) and also using RGB. If anyone has a projector with RGB (component) inputs, I strongly recommend playing games in this format if you do not have HDMI. The Xbox RGB lead comes with the unit and turns even a low resolution TV into a sharp HDTV looking image.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I have a PS3 and an XBOX 360 but i use these on my 40" HD LCD in the living room. I wanted the Wii but thought it might be best in the gym as
there is more room. The projector will also be used for excercise vids such as Tae bo so this was why i was thinking about the glass beaded ones? Which would the Wii be best on, Matt or glass beaded?

Cheers,

Tony

My personal choice would be matte white however, if you will be standing up to watch it more than anything else, a glass beaded version would definately be brighter for daytime viewing. The image may become somewhat grainy with possibly shimmers or sparklies every now and then and not great for home cinema viewing but horses for courses... Some people can ignore it and some do not see it at-all. Once you have settled to it, I'm sure it will be fine.
Hope this helps?
